things change

Lately I've been feeling really disillusioned about JE. I always go through times when I'm not as connected to the fanbase as always, but lately it feels like a chore to keep up with the new artists. I'm not gonna lie, I found out about NEWS's return only a few days before it happened, but back in the day I would have known the minute it hit the streets. And I don't even care. I don't know when they're coming back or how and what anyone else thinks of it, it's like I can't even bother.

Also, I've been really looking away from a lot of Johnny's music and it's become increasingly difficult for me to enjoy the more pre-packaged contemporary idol songs. Rose made a big BSB post which inspired some listening and I realized that the better more accomplished Johnny's groups are akin music-wise to BSB and Nsync in the way that it's producer-crazy pop but the songs stand through all the trends and they're still listenable today. But songs like KAT-TUN's latest and anything K8 has ever done is more akin to, like, LFO and 5ive. The same type of music, but no one's gonna know it five years from now.

And JE has been consistently releasing this type of music for a while now. Besides the older groups which have at least an inch of creative freedom when it comes to making music, the "idol factory" perspective of Johnny's is starting to make more and more sense to me, especially since lately there's been so much proof. Johnny's is trying to propel themselves into the music business of Today but they've completely missed the point. Instead of cheap RnB grooves and a pre-pubescent imitation of "sexy," why not let KimuTaku be nominated for an award? Why not put guest spots on their albums? If JE was still the best of the best they could be bitchy snobs but now? Beggars really can't be choosers.

I've been a JE fan since I was twelve, so I was bound to mature sometime. But before it was like JE was a member's only club in J-POP, and their exclusivity was admired. Now they're just mediocre and they're choosing to remain so, and by pushing everyone away their ship is sinking even faster. I could say that I'm still a JE fan because I listen to TOKIO and KinKi/Endlicheri but they're not typical JE, music-wise and marketing-wise, so as far as what the public considers "Johnny's" I'm definitely not a fan anymore.

congratulations if you read all that :*
