Project Manager Professional Certification

So I need feed back: anyone of my peeps have a PMP cert? If so, how has it helped you in you job field? Back Story: My company is trying to decide if all the Project Managers should be PMP certified, and if so, they will pay the costs.

not a Project Manager, though my company is strongly encouraging PMP certification for all eligible employees, PM or not. The reason is not to help us further our careers but as a contracting firm, having a large number of people certified in 'relevant areas' plays well with winning new contracts.

I can't say how much of it has been used back in the field since I haven't seen our policies and procedures change internally which means that either we are already in line with PMP (doubtful) or the cert is just another piece of paper to hang on the wall (and put on new engagement bids).
