My desktop Mac was bought in June 2011, so by now it is probably considered antediluvian in age. At present it's in the campus computer repair lab. I just got word that several of the hard drive sectors are kaput, and my iPhoto app is sitting on one of them (translation: f*cked!). Thanks so much for the encouragement, Mark - and for mentioning the solid state option (something I ought to look into). At the moment I'm waiting for the DoIT geeks to replace my HD, and hopefully my desktop model will be operational again within a week.

I believe my laptop is even older than your desktop. I most definitely do not have the funds to replace at this point. I'm sorry to hear there's a serious issue with your computer. Are any of the files on your Mac Air? That's still working, right?

Thanks for your concern, Neil. Yep, the laptop is how I'm communicating right now. It's adequate for short durations....but doesn't have anywhere near the number of picture files the big Mac has - nor can it play disks or upload photos from my latest camera (lacks the ports). But I remain optimistic all will eventually turn out OK. Hugs!

Thanks for the link ... that looks nothing like what I experienced when I passed through, but it does look impressive; hopefully my next experience at SFO will match the handsome new design.
I'm about to head off to pick up my newly restored computer this afternoon... keeping fingers crossed. :0)
