Oh yeah, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a farmer's market these days.

As we know, Austin is the exception to pretty much every known rule about Texas culture - except possibly the Texas Pride thing, which is a bit odd when you think about it...

There is a lot, and I mean a *lot*, of fatty food in San Francisco. I think the main thing is that if you live in the city, you walk at least 2 miles a day. It just happens. You can walk most of the places you go near your house or near your work much faster than you can drive and then find parking, so for going out to dinner, light grocery shopping, going out to lunch at work or for drinks with your coworkers after hours, you walk. And because the high is less than 70 for about 47 weeks out of the year, walking isn't any kind of sweaty hardship. If anything, it's a good way to keep warm ( ... )

Yeah, good points. I do think the walking is a big, big deal. There's a couple of reasons college students don't all look like bloated beer-guzzling junk-food-noshing web-surfing blobs... metabolism and eating disorders being among them, of course, but the main thing is that they walk all over the damn place. If I walked as much now as I did in school I'd probably still have that figure... well, maybe not - I've had a kid since then - but closer, anyway...

Jeebus, I miss this.

I've kinds been in denial about it, I suppose. What with all the running.

I did start writing this about LJ. I miss the fuller interactions of LJ vs. FB. But also, I miss walking everywhere. In Portland where I pretty much walked or took the bus everywhere, because not only *could* I, but everyone did. Or living in Hyde Park or Rosedale. I drove *so* much less, walked so much more and *saw* and appreciated so much more. It is hard to appreciate things at 40 miles an hour.

Hrmmm...I guess I must get good discussion elsewhere, cause I seem to miss walking more than LJ.
