He's an insane bastard with a bad reputation. Lavi confuses Kanda with his constant mood swings.He can't pin point if he's a good guy or the villain. Once he figures out what his deal really is then he might be able to decided what he feels towards him. But putting that aside he does see him as a partner even going as far to put his life in the line if it meant saving him. The reason why he would go to such extreme measure is because he feels indebted to him for what he did while they were in his home world.
Note: "I'm worried that you're falling into despair while i'm climbing out of it. I know somethings bothering you. Why don't you tell me. Aren't we partners."

Annoying little git. He's annoyed by his constant questioning about his career choice and his past. That's why he made it a goal to reveal as little as possible to lessen the questioning. But he finds it rather amusing to see him care about someone he barely knows. It refreshing of sorts. He enjoys his company to an extent, but won't mind having tea with him from time to time, and maybe the roles will be switched. Since he want to know a bit more of Lavi. This time he wants to be the one asking the questions.
Note: Wants to ask him how to deal with human behavior. What's the typical reaction to a crying woman? Or how to deal with a frighten Lavi, or a troubled one?

Maybe if they met in different circumstances they would have been friends, but sadly it wasn't the case.

She's far too emotional for him to deal with. Being accustomed to people who did not express their emotions nor acted upon them causes him to be baffled by this Miranda. He doesn't know how to approach her when she's having a dilemma.
She brings the emotions of helplessness and anger. Helplessness because he is use to acting accordingly but with her his thinking process is all a mess. Kanda believes when you are given a candy you should immediately feel better but with her it's not the case. O_0. Anger because she's too weak for his liking. She's like a jittery mouse with no backbone at all.

His trusted doll. She reminded him of bittersweet moments. With the deaths of Tiedoll and Marie she was the only thing left of his so called family. He promised to protect her and that he did even if it meant never seeing her again.
