Having watched all the Doctor Who that we can over Netflix, we moved on to Torchwood.

Hmm.

I like the premise (for a TV show anyway), and I like Captain Jack Harkness. But so far I don't really like any of the other characters. Toshiko is the most sympathetic at this point. The first episode made it clear that Owen was practically a rapist, and ( Read more... )

Yeah he's creepy looking and ugly, and his character just doesn't add up for me. However, they try to sensitize him and do a lot of character development on him. He's a regular actor guy on BBC, and the more I BBC the more I realize that 25 people play everything in the UK.

It's worth watching and stupid by US standards, but do not prepare for a lot of happy endings. No spoilers, just...just...don't expect happy.

I will feel a bit bad if I find out that the actor was in some disfiguring accident as a child, but he looks like he's had too much plastic surgery. His face has that blank, stretched out look that people get when they have everything pulled back and botoxed.

I think part of the point of Torchwood is that being around all the alien stuff tends to drive people nuts. As the show progresses, they all suffer consequences of their actions.

They're definitely hammering that home, I guess one of my issues is that they picked people who looked so YOUNG. I feel like they can't have been doing it very long so how can they already have gone nuts?

Every show has some growing pains, so I'm not giving up on it, but I really do hope it gets better.

We are sticking with it, since I don't totally hate it and I know how awkward 1st seasons can be with some shows. I think I wrote this soon after watching Countrycide, where the entire plot seemed to be 'how incompetent can a super-elite team be'. And after Cyberwoman I really didn't understand how they could justify Ianto still being on the team. We've just started season two and I *still* don't get how Ianto and Owen are still there after their betrayals, but it does seem like the writers might have figured out that having the group be completely at odds and unable to work together is not a good idea.

We eventually got to Children of Earth, and it was fantastic. Watched the entire miniseries in two nights, probably would have watched it all the first night but I had classes the next day.
