"Fag" = "Gay" + malicous intent and/or humor. Kind of like "nigger" it depends on who says it.

"Dyke" = "Lesbian" - stuffiness

No. "Dyke" sounds more like something one would want to be. "Lesbian" sounds sissy, uptight, and weak.

Yeah, usually by frat boys and their ilk. Mostly it's a slur hollered at someone passing by. "Fag" may be used as a playful put-down by macho types. Feminine girls only use "dyke" as a real insult, or as a concealed edge in otherwise playful conversation.

People have called me "dyke" to insult me, but I never paid much attention to them.

No. Sometimes, but not always.

Yes. People who are GLBTQ, or people who are cool with that.

Yes, because "lesbian" sounds pathetic. Also, to me "dyke" has a more butch connotation, and I *have* been seen in a white t-shirt with motor oil stains on it. XD
