My mom is suggesting that Pam and I push off the wedding to the summer of 2009, and not summer of 2008, because Pam and I won't be able to afford a wedding a year from now.... It seems that buy a house before getting married was not the most smart thing to do

Or have a surprise wedding - Throw a big engagement party and have the wedding there without telling anyone! :)

Destination weddings are generally less expensive..you and a handful of your closest friends/family....have a bigger party when you get home with the rest of your family/friends and save money!

You also get to incorporate your honeymoon and wedding together!

But I think waiting isn't a bad idea regardless...house + wedding is a huge drain when you have debts.

Luis and I really wrestled with this too. We bought a place first and then it was really tight and I would often regret buying the place because I really wanted the wedding to happen. I just had to keep telling myself that we made the most sensible and economically sound choice out of the two.
And really, after getting in that much debt with a partner, getting married is not such a big commitment in my opinion!!
