"...what if everything around you was an elaborate dream..."

So I spent most of last night on a sandbar. We rode in our skiff to stake out some fishing sites, but it took longer than we thought, so the tide went out and we got grounded on a sandbar, and had to wait in the freezing cold for like two or three hours before the tide came back in. It kinda sucked.

Hey, so I'm totally new to all of this LiveJournal stuff, and yours is the first that I've read. So I may be completely out of line even attempting to do this "response comment" thing. It sounds like you really hate Alaska. I don't necessarily blame you; I spent nearly two weeks in Brazil this summer (part of the trip was on the Amazon) amongst big stinging insects, smelly cities, and purse snatchers. But I realized after I got back (conveniently) to Albuquerque that it really was a great trip in retrospective and that I should have appreciated it more while I was actually there. Somehow, though, I don't think that I would've looked at it quite that way on the trip, because I was out of my "comfort zone," which I wish that I could get out of every once in a while, instead of constantly harboring so much regret over what I failed to enjoy, and not just with the trip, but with everything else, like running, which I totally took for granted when I was good, but now that I want to enjoy it, I've totally gone to shit. Anyway, just a ( ... )

Thanks. I'll keep your advice in mind. I really like Alaska, it's just that I don't like the hard work involved in this job too much. But I'll try to enjoy it anyway.
