These two actually have a good few things in common. And out today walking silently as he has taken to - it's part of what Niko taught himm, about control, and his uneasiness has been great recently - he catches a climpse of Eddard as he arrives and turns his steps in his direction.
Being Elvishly quiet, he might not be heard until he speaks. "Good day," carefully, and polite, though tense and wary just by virtue of his normal reticence.
Fingon returns the inclination, if his is even more marginal, giving Ned the same looking over, examining the sword, trying to determine what it has been used for. Nothing occurs to him, which leads...
Faraday is out in the forest, touching the trees, communing with them, drinking in the peace they give her. She knows she shouldn't, but so close to the edge -
Then she sees Ned, and starts, violently, almost leaping. "--oh!" Her eyes widen a bit. "Pardon - I did not see you there."
She bites her lip and hovers, a moment, frozen very like the deer she is, wavering. And at last decides not to bolt. "No - not at all, only - I am told these woods are dangerous," flushing, a little, "I expected to see no one." She might have bare feet, her dress tied up around her knees for ease of movement.
He gives her a reassuring smile. "Then forgive me for intruding," he tells her, gently. "In truth, I do not even know where I am."
She makes him smile, a little. Something about his little girl with the brown hair and the long face, and his wildling sister. But she is not Lyanna, as pretty as she is.
Sandor's been moody, brooding about his brother, about the past, about just about everything, and hence avoiding the one person who could cheer him up, because she would cheer him up. However, he does notice when someone drops in not too far away from him.
Oh, great. Another self-righteous Stark here to make his life hard.
He leans against the tree nearest him, expressionless as usual. "Lord Stark."
That might be amusement. Almost. If so, it barely shows on his mouth, and certainly nowhere else, eyes still on Eddard. He considers several things he could say and discards them. Mostly because they don't have a point. "Pick a name and stick with it, Lord Stark. You'll confuse people." Drawled, or almost - not even going to address the latter. They both know how well mannered the Hound is.
When Ned looks up, she is sitting not far away, cross-legged, head tilted and watching him with unfathomably deep and sad eyes. She can recognize his psychic scent, but hasn't placed it yet.
He looks at her - she is small and uncannily quiet. Could she be a child of the forest?
"I will be well, Lady," he replies with his utmost politeness. "But thank you all the same."
Which is of course Ned speak for I totally failed my children and my wife and it's probably my fault if all of Westeros is at war, and also if Robert is dead. And what is going to happen to my little Sansa? And where is my Arya? And my babies at home? And I want my wiiiiiiiiiife.
This is Jaenelle's frowny face, Ned. Look at it! Look how frowny it is!
"You will be," with a frown, "But you aren't. You don't have to pretend you are, you know. People seem funny about that sometimes." Oh, Jaenelle. Like you can talk about keeping your troubles to yourself.
Davos has never spoken to Lord Stark but he had been there when the forces of Winterfell had lifted the siege of Storms End. It is not something you forget easily.
Davos is not as surprised as he could be though, to see the man again, even though Eddard Stark has been dead for near on two years. A smuggler does not grow as old as Davos without learning to listen to people. He is well aware that it is not rare for the dead to end up here.
That does not however, mean that Davos has any idea about what he should say now and he has to stop himself from taking a step back in fear.
Perhaps Davos remembers Ned, but Ned does not quite recognize the Onion knight. It may be the weight of the years. It may be his own guilt and his own mind, but as things stand, Eddard simply inclines his head, without reaching for Ice.
"Ser," he replies, politely, if a bit carefully.
Being dead does mean nothing further can happen, and it makes him strangely calm, at least on the outside.
*cough* I hope I do dear Ned justice. I haven't gotten to anywhere in Davos' chapters where they meet, but do feel free to fill me in? I don't mind being spoilerified in the least.
Davos made no move to reach for his own sword either.
"Your son is here, my lord," he replied. He knew that it would be the first thing Davos would wish to know if he was in Eddard's position.
They don't ever meet. But it's Eddard who broke the Siege at Storms End after Jaime kills Aerys and Stannis mentions that they talked together before Ned left. Davos had to be there, given that it was his supplies that kept the defenders alive long enough for Ned to come to the rescue, so I'm assuming that he'll have noted Ned from afar (what with him being a very important man) but never actually spoken to him. Which is a very Tl:DR explanation but hey.
...... this, however, is horrible news for Ned. Because if ---
"Which one, Ser?" His first, very first thought is for Robb, Robb who took after him and would have -- but Catelyn would have talked sense into him. Or did something happen to Bran? The attempt on his life wasn't so long ago after all, and...
His tone is composed, but inwardly, he is reeling.
Thank you for the explanation. ^^ I'm about 10% through Clash of Kings, so now I know who Davos is (which I didn't when you intro'd him - oh, by the way, I also mun Caranthir). And I loved Ned SO MUCH. I totally went South Park at the end of the book. Even if I knew.
Don't worry about spoilerifying me - I've been RPing with all the aSoIaF muns, so I'm kind of spoiled already on the major plot points, safe for Dany's bits.

His eyes are observing the man who addressed him - so very tall, dark haired --- he can't place him. A person of this world, then, whatever it is.
"Good day," he replies, stern, subdued and dignified as he ever was. He inclines his head, politely.

"Ah. Might you be new come?"

"I -- I suppose so," he replies with the barest hesitation. "Though where this is, I do not know. Did the old gods send you, then, My Lord?"

To demonstrate his good will, he steps away from Ice, enough that it would be a stretch to reach for the sword.

"Hound." This is as wtfeth as it's ever going to get. "Are you not --- you were just ---" He shakes his head, regains his composure.
"It is poor manner to interrupt a man's prayers, Sandor Clegane."

"Where is your King, Kingsguard? Have you lost your precious ward?"
And more importantly, is there a chance I might kill him? Please?

He touches his neck, unconsciously. "I am already better than I was," he says carefully.
His leg doesn't even hurt anymore. That's a major bonus.

Where are you up to, anyway?
And I am so excited about a Ned. :)
