Anyone happening to be outside will most likely notice this.  It would be amazingly hard not to notice that there is a dragon flying over the mansion. It is black, sleek and well over a hundred feet long, with an even larger wingspan. But if one can get over the immediate shock of seeing such a specimen then it might also be noticed that there is a ( Read more... )

Cimorene doesn't quite run, but she does hurry - she saw the dragon fly over, but as she lives a little away from the Mansion, it takes her a few moments to catch up.

Unfortunately, her face falls, just a bit, when she comes up on them. It's almost as if she was expecting someone, only to find someone else when allowed a closer look. But she manages, politely, "Are you two lost, then?" She has to be a bit of a shock herself, this tall woman with braided hair who doesn't fit their time at all, though she's pregnant enough she's not wearing her usual blue jeans now.

For a moment Laurence thinks she might be a female member of the Aerial Corps. She has that no nonsense look to her and her choice of clothing and hairstyle only help his assumption. The only thing missing is her own dragon.

"Yes," they both answer at almost the same time.

She sighs. "Unfortunately, I don't know how much help I'll be, other than giving you a list of places you're both not. Sorry." She tilts her head. "You don't look like you're from the Mountains of Morning." This last is addressed to Temeraire.

"I am a Celestial Dragon," he says, standing still as Laurence climbs down from the harness. "My kind come from China. Where are the Mountains of Morning? They might be a part of China, you know, since it is such a large place."

This. It's not something you see every day, even at the Mansion. Even when your babysitter has bat wings. Hence the young victorian lady, staring despite all attempts at propriety.

She's no afraid, though. Just... amazed.

The fact that a Western woman isn't running away in terror from so large a dragon (or any dragon at all for that matter) is more than a little peculiar and Laurence might pay it more mind if he weren't so thoroughly confused at the moment. "Excuse me, miss, but do you know where we are?"

Sugar tilts her head, curiously. "They call this the Mansion, M'lord," she replies, polite and friendly enough. Her accent is a strange watered down mix of Cockney, upper London, but her bearing is almost that of a New-Yorker, thanks to her current frequentations. "I'm very sorry if you find this to be a rather generic name, but I've never heard it called anything else."

Well, madhouse, freaky place, asylum, hell hole are terms she's heard, but Sugar knows better than to repeat them to a new arrival.

While Laurence's accent and bearing are polite, upper-class, military, and just the slightest bit old fashioned. Temeraire also sounds English. "I am Captain William Lauurence," he says, getting down from the harness. "And this is is Temeraire. I am not a lord." Just the third son of one. ...And the adopted son of the Emperor of China.

Someone's eyes are as big as dinner plates.

Elia was standing outside, minding her own business, when the dragon came down not too far away. She's unsure whether she should run for safety or edge closer; one thing is certain, she is definitely gaping in awe and shock.

YOU SIR or ma'am ARE MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME NOT TO BRING IN A THARKAY. SHAME SHAME SHAME also *loves*.

Temeraire's definitely good at the whole shock and awe thing.

The dragon makes no outward signs that he is about to eat her, or even that he has noticed her at all, and Laurence is far to busy getting out of the harness and fussing over Temeraire to notice her either. So if Elia were to edge closer now would most likely be the time to do so.

YES YES YES not SHAME SHAME SHAME. Tharkay for the ultimate win of everything ever.

If possible, Elia's eyes get wider. The dragon is harnessed? By a man with blond hair? Well, it's not Targaryen silver, but it's close.

And so curiosity wins out, and she does edge closer, wary of the dragon, but attempting not to show it outwardly. She looks up at the dragon (which talked! She didn't know they did that!) and very, very tentatively says "...Dracarys?" It's an exceptionally stupid thing to say, she realizes belatedly, and hopes she doesn't end up roasted for it.

WELL WHEN YOU PUT IT THAT WAY.

Temeraire looks up from the (thankfully rather quiet) conversation he was having with Laurence about finding something to eat and turns his attention to Elia. "I beg your pardon?"

I do.

And here is Lord Eddard Stark, because really, really, you cannot have a dragon landing without a Westorosi (a dead Westerosi) gawking.

So here he is. Gawking a lot, and gripping his sword with eyes wider than they've ever been. Going to the godswood got suddenly very eventful, didn't it.

"Gods be good," is going to be Ned's eloquent gasp.

Both man and dragon look over at him curiously. Well, curiously in Temeraire's case. Laurence is really more concerned for the dragon's welfare than anything else. The armed and frightened public is never a good thing.

Laurence keeps a close eye on the other man as he climbs down from Temeraire, hoping his own sword is noticeable under the long leather coat he wears for flying. "Would you happen to know where we are, sir?"

Ned is still staring at Temeraire, though more out of wonder than anything else, now that the shock has passed. After all, his own arrival was by many ways more bewildering than a dragon, which... actually... is really saying something.

"They call this the Mansion," he replies, cautiously.

Laurence nods. It's definitely a descriptive name if nothing else. "I see. But where is it?"

Caranthir happens to be outside. He happens to be outside, coming back from a mildly risky hunting trip to the woods, a foot and with a good catch on his shoulder. The elf is taller than the average human, but shorter than his brothers (then again, everyone is shorter than Maedhros). He has an eyepatch and heavy scarring on his face, and is going to let out a curse when he sees the dragon, before dropping the carcass and drawing his sword, at the ready.

He totally wasn't expecting this. And he's still only one eyed, damnit. Jaenelle did say it would take a while.

Temeraire is far more interested in the game Caranthir's caught than the sword in his hand and moves closer to him, causing Laurence to give an ungentlemanly yelp of alarm, as he was trying to get down just as the dragon decided to move.

"Are you going to eat that? Or do you mind if I do? Oh, please say yes. I am ever so hungry and we'll pay you back."

"Stand back! I will not feed the servants of Udun," he replies, angry already because he has quite vivid memories of Glaurung, and it was not fun. To say the least.

And he's somewhere very close to panic, which means he's very close to falling in berserk mode.

And at the same time, the family needs to know if Morgoth has found new minions, and that does militate in the interest of Not Dying Right Now. And he's trying to calm himself down, but.

[... and if you were wondering, yes, we have a Morgoth. He's usually fairly absent, though, unless typists ask for him. >.> ]

Temeraire doesn't back up, but he does look extremely puzzled. "The servants of who? Laurence, do you know who he is talking about?" Laurence, having somehow finally managed to unhook himself and clamber down, is busy drawing his own sword, standing protectively in front of his friend.

[Facepalm. I can certainly see that going well.

Morgoth: I made you.

Temeraire: WTF?

Laurence: ........]
