It's really been a while since...

... since we saw the Merlin. Or, alternatively, since Merlin saw anyone.  His two housemates have been more social than himself, lately, and he's feeling the uncanny desire to see people, meet new people.

So here's a wizard, smoking a pipe in the chill autumn air, looking at the yellow leaves in the trees and the humid, dying grass on the ground.

Mercy comes up the stairs and flops next to Merlin on the porch, looking tired, sweaty, and dirty. "Whew. Swear I've never met a car so temperamental," she says, with a bit of an amiable grin.

That.. seriously amuses him. "Well then," he tells her, "you look rather unscathed for a girl who wrestles with chariots."

"I wouldn't say 'wrestles' so much as 'wrangles,'" She says, with a smile. "I wouldn't want to try the latter."

He chuckles, a little. "No, I don't suppose it would be a wise thing to do, lass. But I don't believe we've ever been introduced, have we?"

And here is a Paulinka! Sitting on the porch, reading again, with a fur stole around her. She waves hello to him, smiling.

He gives her a smile in return, and stands, wobbling a bow of sorts. "Paulinka-girl, how are you?"

"I'm lovely, thank you!" she says, smiling. "I enjoy the fall weather."

"It is pleasant indeed," Merlin replies, smiling. "And the lovely colors of fall do make a charming scene."

Kvothe wanders out of the mansion, probably intending on taking a walk, and smiles when he sees Merlin. He raises a hand in greeting as he goes toward the old wizard. "Hello, Merlin."

Merlin waves back, crosses the distance to offer Kvothe the compulsory arm clasp. "Kvothe my friend, it's been a while ere I saw you."

"It has," he agrees, clasping Merlin's arm in return. "What have been doing with your time then, since you haven't been coming by the mansion?"

"Puzzling out the old riddle," he replies, referring to the vortex of evvvvvil. "And mostly being frustrated with it."

If he's near the mansion he'll see a young family outside, Gabrielle, Chaosti and little Aiden. Chaosti sees him first, watching him with a stare that Merlin's probably familiar with from first meetings with other Warlord Princes, then Aiden looks where daddy's looking and starts determinedly crawling toward the wizard. Gabrielle corrals her boys and smiles in Merlin's direction. "Hello."

The only Warlord Prince Merlin's ever had to deal with is Lucivar, and we alas can't say that they're on speaking terms at the moment.

He smiles back, politely, wobbles a little. "Good day," he replies, open and friendly enough.

Young families are such a rare sight, he muses, in this place.

The baby starts babbling cheerfully in Merlin's direction. "I don't think we've seen you around before," Gabrielle says, settling Aiden on her hip "I'm Gabrielle, and this is Chaosti, and Aiden."

"Well met, Lady," he replies, very politely. "And you as well, sir, and you too, little lord."

He tilts his head, interestedly. "A young family is a rare sight in this place. Has the Mansion treated you well?" All three of you, he means, of course.

Saetan doesn't feel the cold much either, but the smell of the pipe draws him. He often takes a walk just after sunset when the sun can't plague him but the chill of a long night hasn't set in either. "Hello there," he says as he comes back to the Mansion from his stroll around the grounds.

He isn't being nosy, but this is yet another person who smells powerful to his psychic senses but isn't Blood. He won't say that though. He's just cautious enough not to get too close and be ready with his defenses.

"Good evening," Merlin replies after a long puff of his pipe. "A passing fair dusk, was it?"

He's feeling the power - and actually smelling something vaguely familiar, if only perhaps because of his own half-demon nature.

"It's a good time of day to walk. I don't like being inside all the time." Though he's hardly as earthy as the witches.

Merlin nods. "There is joy in the outside indeed," he says, after a long tug on his clove-scented pipe. "More so than in the confines of man-made walls."
