Really… in this case, Ueda isn’t missing anyone - or anything for that matter.

He’s just feeling bored and whenever that happens, he just wanders about the Jimusho and today, being as such, he hopes to find something, anything that will kill his boredom.

Upon approaching a particular room - a room which holds a ‘special’ meaning to him - Ueda couldn’t help but pull its door open… the door to probably the most well-known room in the Jimusho: The Audition Room…

“… You really have no talent, Ueda-kun. Your movements are too clumsy, your steps are too slow and your tempo never matches. You’re messing up everything...”

Ueda immediately stepped outside the room and slammed the door shut when the trainer gave them a 30 minutes break.

He was fuming at his group- mates who were of no help to him as well as the perfectionist trainer and without him realizing, he’d walked to a crowd at his Jimusho’s café. Wandering around, he inspects the crowd suspiciously, wondering of possible reasons as why the café is as crowded and at such an unusual hour. It wasn’t even lunch time as yet - but then he heard familiar voices.

“Did you see this movement? Do it 400 times, ok?” Ueda heard an angry voice coming from the room he had just passed.  Audition, huh? And what does that have to do with 400 times?

Curiously, Ueda walked back to the room and there he could see about 20 children trying to see the dance moves being shown by the trainer. The children were all trying to squeeze between each other in an attempt to get a better view of what they were supposed to follow.

“Ok, you guys can start now” the trainer said.

On being instructed, the children began to dance and perform as shown to them earlier. Still observing, Ueda realized that these students may just be his age or probably a year or two younger.

The students passionately imitated the trainer’s movements but by the end of an hour, the number of students drastically fell from 20 to a mere 3 who were now struggling to keep pace and were gasping out of breath.

Sure enough, not more than 5 minutes later, the tall boy fell, looking down as though bowing to someone and shaking his head, as if trying to regain strength and controlled breathing, then suddenly, came an old man that Ueda knew to be Johnny-san.

Johnny-san approached the struggling boy, patted his shoulder and uttered something in his ear, and whatever was whispered seemed to have worked magic for the boy regained strength and vigor raising his spirit again, dancing like his drain movements and low tension had never happened

The tall boy moved as if he was in a trance. He consistently did everything as instructed and exhaustion was only a fade concept. His movements became more organized and were perfectly in sync with his deep concentration, his footsteps moving his lithe body - everything he did was perfectly done. He continued with his pace even after his rivals had fallen tired and that made him one of the chosen ones for the next juniors.

The trainer  clapped and praised the boy with words every junior who’d practiced with him ever dreamt of hearing, ‘Bravo… Bravo”, he had said. The tall boy finally ended his routine and turned to the trainer flashing the purest and brightest smile ever.

It was only for 10 seconds that such a refreshing beauty flashed before Ueda’s eyes. Ueda stood stunned on the spot, frozen by the smile that had greeted him. He remembered how sharp and yet warm the look that had at graced him. It was so captivating. He became more lost in that gaze when the boy threw a smile in his direction upon realizing his presence.

This boy's bright smile had won over the Sun's bright rays.

Upon realizing the boy smiling at him, Ueda blinked in confusion. He needed a few seconds to reclaim his composure. After which he walked from the room but there was one thing he couldn’t control, and that was the wide smile that spread itself across his lips as the tall boy’s smile was still imprinted in his mind.

“Interesting…” He mumbled as he walked back to his dancing room with a new spirit boosted inside him.

Oh, no. He’s still not missing anyone -or anything, especially not some moments that are now swiftly flowing through his mind upon opening that door. He however soon realizes that he couldn’t do anything nor was there anything at present in the room that could kill his boredom. Ueda soon closes the door and keeps walking.

And, nope.  He is still not thinking about anything when he opened the next door in front of him. Another room that’s also familiar with memories from his junior years. He even gave it a name: the guitar room…

“Uhm.. Ueda-kun. Uhm… may I ask you something?” He watched as Taguchi nervously cleared his throat and glanced at him from the other side of the room. On confirming Ueda was waiting on him to speak, he continued, “Uhm... what will we be doing here?. Isn’t this an empty room-”

“Practice”, Ueda answered quickly without giving Taguchi a chance to continue.

“Eh?”

“Sit and listen”. Taguchi nervously nodded his head. His eyes constantly followed in the direction Ueda went and he grew surprised when Ueda returned, holding a guitar. Junno gave him a questioning look.

“My guitar. This is where I use to write songs using my guitar. And this is the very first song that I’ve ever done... it’s for you”.

“Eehh --?” but Taguchi stopped his soon-to-be-protest when Ueda gave him a sharp look.

And being confident that Taguchi was ever ready to any music produced by him, Ueda began to strum his guitar.

One by one, word after word, Ueda song his lyrics. The rhyme of the song united with the strum of the guitar, produced such a beautiful tone that would make anyone who listened, become drowned in its depth and by its power. Even Ueda himself was drowning inside his own world without knowing it… even the aura around them had changed to create a time and place where everything else had vanished except for him and the younger boy before him.

Ueda was beyond lost as to what he was feeling or even singing. As he sang and played he wondered if those were just mere words bundled into a nice, beautiful lyric or were they much deeper than he had grasped. He didn’t know and he didn’t understand that kind of thing, but for now, he just wanted to keep writing everything stored in his mind and compiled them inside those untitled lyrics. Ueda, seemingly tried his best to deliver whatever it was into the couplet of the song, staring without doubt at the boy before him. He sang until the final lyric was uttered form his lips.

Ueda slowly ended his song and guitar strumming and everything faded into a pleasant silence. He remained still and stared at the boy, hopefully.

“Ueda-kun…” Taguchi blankly stared him down as though he was still trapped in the earlier musical trance.

“Hmn.” He answered shortly.

“Are you serious?... Just now. That song... for me? Are you sure it’s for me? You’re not... maybe by chance it was a mistake?” Ueda frowned at the ambiguous implication of Taguchi’s questions.

“Is that all you have to say about a song that took me 6 months to complete?”

“Eh? 6 months? But, why me? Why did you write me that song?” Taguchi asked, looking fully into his eyes.

Ueda put his guitar down and slowly drew closer to Taguchi’s face, stopping only a few inches just enough for them both to stare at each another with the same sharpness and that’s when Ueda said, “Teach me how to dance in return.”

On hearing what he’d least expected, Taguchi tilted his head in confusion and asked, “you… took 6 months to write and create that song for me in exchange that I’d teach you how to dance? Ueda nodded. They stared at each other a moment longer until finally Taguchi smiled in agreement.

“Of course, Ueda-kun. I will teach you”.

Ueda smiled back at hearing that, “Good to hear. Now, let’s go back to the dancing hall”.

Ueda pulled Taguchi’s hand and walked towards the door but then Ueda felt Taguchi stiffen. He stopped in their track and upon looking up at Taguchi, he saw the younger boy smiling…

“Ueda-kun… that song, was most beautiful.”

But at that moment Ueda couldn’t decide which was more appropriate: his song being called ‘beautiful’, or the beautiful man with the ‘beautiful’ smile standing in front of him.

That Baka! People would swear that he’s always positive… always bouncy and flashing that huge trademark grin of his, but it’s Ueda who knows best that behind it all, this guy has little confidence and is easily affected by what others say about him.
