(ok ok I know, and I am sorry!!!! I took too long!!! Hope your getting better fast Grammy!)
After touring the Cathedrial we headed further into Savannah to Forsyth park, This is a huge park in the center of the town, with fields for playing ball, a beautiful fountain, pathways, picnic areas etc.
Along the way we came upon some other sites, and beautiful walk ways. Everything in Downtown Savannah is just gorgeous, You walk down alley ways and see old houses, as well as momuments and historic sites.
This is one of the Entrances to Forsyth Park
The Park is a large city park that occupies 30 acres in the historic of Savannah. The park lies between Drayton and Whitaker Streets and has several walking paths, a children's play area, the Fragrant Garden for the blind and a large fountain. From time to time, there are concerts held at Forsyth to the benefit of the public.
The park was originally created in the 1840s on 10 acres of land donated by William Hodgson. In 1851, the park was expanded and named after Georgia Governor John Forsyth By 1853, all original planned wards of Savannah were occupied and a large public park was added to the extreme south end of the city plan. This park was anticipated by General
James Oglethorpe's plan and was made possible by a donation of 20 acres of land owned by Forsyth
At the Center of the park was a huge fountain
The Fountain was created in 1858 and received extensive restoration in 1988. The Fountain is located in Forsyth Park, which extends from Gaston Street to Park Avenue along the Bull Street corridor.
It's hard ot see in this pic but all around were bricks with family names/dedications etc on them.
All around the park were cute little birds they were everywhere, and there was lusious green grass, it made you just want to lay down in it, so we did!!
On the outskirts of Forsyth park is the Forsyth Mansion A Mansion from 1888 is now renovated into a luxry Hotel.
As you walked down the streets with tree canopys, there were beautiful homes surrounding the park
And this is their view from their home... Who would'nt want to live here??
Once we finished walking around and seeing the amazing houses etc. we decided that was enough walking for now, and took the trolly back to the Hote to relax for a bit before we headed to Paula Deen's for dinner!! While we were waiting for the Trolly I took these pics, and a couple of ladies waiting with us took a picture of us.
Let me just say that taking the public trolly transportation was quite the experience, Drunks, fights, and just an overall scrary experience, and wouldnt recommend it to anyone!
Next up! Paula Deens' The Lady and Sons!
