Ψ Entry the Third - Who am I?

Jun 06, 2010 09:03

I have just one question.

If one thing that we are meant to be doing while we are here is to start new lives, to make new stories, then why is it so easy for us to die?

Asking questions leads to trouble, so why ask them at all?

trouble, something to protect, not a good time to be unarmed

This above all else: Be mindful what you ask, and moreso what you answer. There are always those would not have their secrets known; it is no different here.

[He pauses in thought, then keeps writing.]

There's usually little harm in living one's day to day life, though this last month has been an exception.

That is sound advice, and the reminder is helpful. Thank you, Reed.

That is also helpful to hear, because while treading carefully is not unwise, having to watch one's back when turning every corner can become tiresome.

I thought of something else I wanted to ask you. How did you become a guide?

I'd found the need for greeters posted on a handbill. I sent in a missive for the work, and shortly thereafter I was granted a writ of station. Sadly, it was the only time I'd ever seen such work offered openly.

Though it's curious. For my position on the watch I was met by captain Stoneface in person and tested in combat, yet for my guide duty I had done little more than write my name.

Not everyone is so complacent. Knowledge is dangerous, but there are some risks that need to be taken. It's a matter of being able to tell the difference between a worthwhile risk and a stupid one. Answers do you no good if they get you killed.

Memories of who we were are important, and depending on the memory, perhaps important enough to die for.

But I agree. Reckless actions that lead to needless death have no point.

[pause] That's a noble viewpoint. [And a foolish one, he thinks, but he'll keep that to himself for now.]

Good.

Asking questions is the only way to find the truth.

What about the consequences?

There are ways to minimise them.

But fear is no excuse for accepting a lie.

We're meant to start new lives here?

Probably because starting a new life without any difficulties would make it too easy.

Maybe some ignorance is actually bliss.
