Title: Resonance

Summary: It's not that Shawn's angry, but there's this -- buzzing. Lassiter is standing before the Chief is finished speaking. He is insubordinate but she is out-of-line; this is how things stand. (Spoilers through 4x09)
Reason for Reccing: The first time I read this fic, I was just blown away by the style of the author, the emotion that was expressed and her keen insight into Shawn's psyche. This is truly a magnificent fanfic, one of the greatest I have read.

Title: Facts of Life

Summary: Fact: from 1994 -- 2006, Shawn and Gus had been apart for more than ten years.
As much as Gus loved facts, he hated the idea of him and Shawn separating after graduation. But if Shawn was serious about going on this road trip, then well, Gus was serious about being a part of it too, in one way or another.
Reason for Reccing: I have to admit, I am a sucker for Shawn and Gus friendship fics and this one is pure brilliance. I love the characterization, the dialogue and the writing style. This gives a very good and believable idea of what could have happened while Gus was at college and Shawn was traveling.

Title: Hypothetically Speaking

Summary: Karen Vick, fifteen minutes and a muffin lead straight into the insight that is Shawn Spencer.
Reason for Reccing: This fic portrays a short scene of Shawn and Vick being "honest" with each other while speaking hypothetically and it's a mixture between funny and serious. It really portrays not only how intelligent Shawn is, but also Chief Vick. Also, I found it to be a very refreshing read because there are not a lot of fics featuring the Chief and Shawn together with nobody else around.

Title: On The Way Back Home

Summary: Henry spent a year attempting to make memories of his ever having a son fade, until one particular afternoon, when a phone call intercepted his plan with a sentence that brought every single one back, "I'm calling from Cedars-Sanai Hospital..."
Reason for Reccing: This is my favorite fic about Shawn's motorcycle accident that was reference in Season One. I thought that the author did an amazing job with Henry's characterization. His thought, emotions and inner struggles were perfect and spot on. I also loved her take on Shawn and the way she wrote his fear. And plus, she added pineapple smoothies and that always earns brownie (pineapple?) points! :)

Title: An Almost World

Summary: He didn't care that his pants were wrinkled, that his shirt wasn't tucked in or that his socks didn't match. Today, it just didn't matter.
A look at what Shawn - and Gus - might do in the face of Henry being murdered.
Reason for Reccing: I used to avoid deathfics like the plague because they were so depressing. Then I realized that it's fascinating to see the different perspectives on certain characters dying. This particular fic deals with Henry's death, adds a little bit of Shules and portrays how close Shawn and Gus really are. It's brilliantly written and I could totally see this happening (even though canon would never, ever do this.)

Title: Worst Moments

Summary: A look into Shawn's head during the worst moments of his life.
Reason for Reccing: Yes, another deathfic. This author first attracted my attention with a Supernatural fic she wrote and she was one of the first authors I read when I branch into the Psych fandom. This fic is written so well, and it's such a believable way of how Shawn would react to Henry's death. Also another fic which shows Shawn and Gus at their best!

Title: When It Was Easy

Summary: Henry comes home and finds the back door open.
Reason for Reccing: This is one of the my favorite tags to "Mr. Yang Presents." I love the author's take on both Henry and Shawn. I do wish that canon had explored more of how Shawn was affected by being shot but that is why we have fanfiction, and this author did an amazing job in delving into Shawn's thoughts and reactions.

Title: X Marks the Spot

Summary: Gus is being held captive by a psycho who wants to leave his mark in a very serious, and literal, way.
Reason for Reccing: I absolutely love the way the author begin this fic. She did such an amazing job on both Gus' thoughts and how he perceives Shawn. There are not enough good things I could say about this fic, so my suggestion would be go find out for yourself because you will not be disappointed!

Title: Hate

Summary: A series of hate crimes in Santa Barbara leads Shawn to investigate a group of doubtful ideological background. They are dangerous, and they show no hesitation. And as the investigation progresses, it forces Shawn and Gus to confront something that in over twenty years of friendship has never been an issue between them.
Rated for some fairly descriptive acts of physical violence in later chapters.
Reason for Reccing: I love the author's inspiration behind this fic and I love the way she handled such a delicate topic. She has written Shawn and Gus both so well and there is so much packed into this fic and it is definitely worth the read.

Title: You Win Some, You Lose Some and Sometimes You Don't Know the Difference

Summary: Sometimes, fights don't end even when they're over.
Sometimes, they reverberate through the years, affecting things in ways we never imagined possible.
Sometimes, the ones we're trying to protect are the ones we end up hurting the most.
Reason for Reccing: Though Shules is like, the one pairing that I actually like I don't usually read fanfic that focuses on them. This particular fic, however, does an amazing job in connecting how Henry and Madeline's divorce affects Shawn even after he's married to Juliet. Another reason why I love this fic is because it explores how damaging a divorce can be on a child and how sometimes that child can be affected throughout his entire life.

Title: The Inverse of this Relation

Summary: Shawn remembers everything he's ever seen, but he can't make sense of it all - a hug that lingers too long after a double shift, case files Shawn isn't supposed to see, yelling that he's not supposed to hear (they're not as quiet as they think they are.)
Reason for Reccing: This is not only one of my favorite Smart!Shawn fics, it's also one of my favorite pre-series fics. This author is so talented that I am just amazed at her writing style. This fic explores Shawn in school and Shawn struggling with his parents divorce. I couldn't ever rec this one too many times!

Reason for Reccing: I read this fic and I feel in love with the author's writing style and her take on Shawn. It's pre-series, and it is so amazing how this fic filled in the gaps that canon doesn't explore. And it portrays Smart!Shawn very well.
