[A. Action for 851 Goldberg Street]

[Merlin immediately knows something's wrong before he even opens his eyes - for one thing, the bed he's lying on is incredibly soft, rather than the hard cot he usually sleeps on. For another, there's a gnawing emptiness inside of him when he tries to reach for his magic and figure out what's going on.

Okay... ( Read more... )

[By this point, Merlin's figured out that the people here aren't as against magic as back home, so he's less panicked when she catches him at it.]

Oh, you know. Just...[Waves a hand vaguely - it could mean anything between 'casting a spell' or 'muttering to myself like a crazy person'.] Anyway, it doesn't seem to have mattered.

[He grins at her.] Yeah, I just woke up here a few hours ago. Bit of a shock, as you can imagine. You too, then?

[There is a teen girl in a witches hat next to you. She was doing her "see me not" thing to avoid drones so until she speaks it's hard to see her.]

Magic won't work here if that's what you're trying to do.

[He jumps and flails a little - and okay, Arthur might call him an unobservant idiot on a daily basis, but he's pretty sure he would have noticed someone standing next to him. Probably. Maybe. Still, while witches don't wear hats in his world, it does seem like she has some form of magic.]

Whoa! How long have you been there? And yeah, it looks like it. [Beat.] Unless you're from Camelot, in which case, I wasn't doing any magic at all and you'll never be able to prove it.

Ah, no. I'm from the Discworld actually. Tiffany Aching, witch of the Chalk.

I take it you're from one of those places where people have to hide their magic?

I've never heard of Discworld, but it's always nice to meet another magic-user! [Beat.] Unless they're trying to kill me. I'm Merlin! And, er, I guess I'm a warlock of Camelot, but I'd rather that not get spread around.

[Winces.] Yeah. Uther - the king of where I live - banned magic from the kingdom twenty years ago. Anyone caught using magic or consorting with a sorcerer gets executed.

I'm afraid you're a long way from Camelot.

The Arthur you're looking for, is he...

[She wants to say king, but since she's not entirely sure who she's talking to or when he's from, hesistates]

A prince and an enormous prat. Have you heard of him?

[It was only by chance she'd seen the male on her travels around the tone, still checking as she does. She only pauses when she sees him, a brow furrowing at the sight. He didn't seem to be a resident that looked familiar and didn't act like he'd been there awhile, either.]

I'm afraid nothing you may try will work if you're still fairly new.

[Sighs.] I didn't think it would, but it was worth a shot anyway. Do you think they'll be giving us back our...things, soon?

[She offers a grim sort of look.] I can't be sure. Sometimes they give things back, but it's only after we suffer trials by their hands. It's been six months since I've been here and for it I've been given four things from home.

[Hm. A thought.] About every month and a half or so something happens that normally results in us retrieving something. It's been about that long already.

So we have to earn them back, huh? Well, as long as we get what we're missing back, I'll go along with whatever trial they want to put me through. I can't do much without my ma-- er, things, anyway.

[His lips quirk up wryly.] Really? Lucky me, then.

[What's with these housemates showing up all of a sudden. Maya's just

going to follow after Merlin.

With maybe her pistol just in case. You never know.]

[Merlin's just taking apart one of the rooms, rummaging through drawers and picking up the photographs curiously. There has to be something here that can give him a clue as to where he is...]

[Jumps and slams the drawer shut, trying to look as innocent as possible.]

Oh, er, sorry! I was just -- you know, looking for -- er, well, yes. I must have gotten lost and wandered into the wrong room. Terribly sorry about that.

...do you know where I am, by the way?
