Creative ADD... I has it.

I'm starting to come down with creative ADD...

I can't decide whether I should-

Fine tune and add chapters to Crimson Mask
Work on "Signa's Story" (The first part of the sequel to CM or, if nothing goes according to plan, the prequel)
Edit 1001 Insomniac Nights in preparation for queries, re-posting.
Project: YTBrains
And my beloved wife just bought me a ( Read more... )

I would think... in order...

1. Edit 1001 Insomniac Nights in preparation for queries, re-posting.
2. work on the three short stories I know I should be working on.
3. work on "Signa's Story" (The first part of the sequel to CM or, if nothing goes according to plan, the prequel)
4. Project: YTBrains (I'm not sure what that is... it might have a higher priority)
5. Fine tune and add chapters to Crimson Mask - I put this last because you have to give something for the publisher/editor to hash and give you back something to redo yada yada yada anyway

Read (because I'm assuming that's what you're going to do with it) the hard-science book concerning "Neptune Rising" for breaks because if you don't take breaks you'll kill yourself and that would be a Bad Thing™ and your wife would just raise you back up and kill you again for doing it. No, really. Trust me on this one.

Admittedly, I thought you'd be all about Signa's story.

But why'd you rate the short stories so high?

Two words. Short. Stories. What was that first word? Short.

Nu. Here's the reasoning. You edit 1001 because theoretically you can toss that puppy out to the dogs... uh... I mean potential markets. Then you work on the three short stories because they're much faster to write. Question: why do so many writers write so many short stories when they are first breaking into writing?? Answer: because a) it helps sharpen their skill b) it helps pay the bills c) it's frelling faster to pop that puppy out into the world and onto the rejection circuit... the more material you have out the better.

Nu. Don't tell me you haven't read Issac Asimov's autobiography yet?! Or every single one of the Sword & Sorceress anthologies?! Just... don't tell me!!

I don't really know how sell-able any of the short stories actually are. I know one of them is absolutely NOT sell-able. The other two are... questionable. One could probably go to Apex, if I could figure out how to tell it.

Your list matches Kat's exactly. So I'm going to ask the same question. Why'd you rate the short stories so high?

Change of pace from long form.

I'm not going to claim that short stories are quicker or easier. It's just a different writing muscle.

I'd use the zombie dealie and the Neptune-majigger as a break between the other three. I'd also switch randomly between the other three as I got bored. What's the point of ADD if you can't use it to your advantage?
