Basically it is about length.

I understand that publishing is very different, but I think it's something to think about.

If you can't reduce a story to a revenge story, that's nothing about the quality of your writing. The purpose of the query letter or pitch is to get them to read it. If the revenge story drives the plot, if that is the engine, than there is no problem stating that as the starting point. If the subplots or changes complicate that - that's all the better because it makes it more interesting. They will discover this when they read the manuscript.

You could always hint at more happening.

What makes you think the story isn't "Sword and Sorcery-esque" ?

Well, I mean, it is, I guess. But "Sword and Sorcery", to me, implies that it's an action oriented story with little, if any, character adaption. I'd like to think that Crimson Mask has some depth to it.

Sword and Sorcery is a setting, not a method of storytelling. Like Sword and Sandal.
