Thanks so much, Matt. I feel so much better about my attempts to find some encouragement and companionship while I follow my dream.

This is an on-going thing with me. I first heard about NaNoWriMo back in 2000-ish (It was NYU, that's the only real detail I remember), and I've been opposed to it every year. Usually I say something about it, and it's generally a schizophrenic kind of reaction as I generally have mixed feelings. 2007 is a great example of it: http://desuvan.livejournal.com/2007/11/06/ And then there's a harsh one in 2004. Seems like there are only three posts. (I thought I was a bit more explosive about it.)

Honestly, I had basically reached my peace with it in 2007, but as I was looking over publishing requirements, the trend hit me and I realized that publishing had changed in response to it. And the fact that I've had such an incredibly positive response to my latest novel, but I can't get an agent to even look at it, well... It's simply infuriating.

I really don't know what to tell you. I'm sorry that you're upset, but NaNoWriMo has changed the industry.
