The Elevator Pitch

In short, I would describe The Crimson Mask as a stream-lined, intense fantasy novel that is kind of artsy, a little pulpy, and ultimately about the pointlessness of revenge and the true nature of redemption. It is a medieval urban high fantasy with magic swords and fantastical cities... and undead.

I prefer "urban medieval high fantasy" better (urban is the "in" word currently, so list it first.)

take out "kind of artsy" because:
a. "kind of" is lame
b. "artsy" is too niche

"ultimately about the pointlessness of revenge and the true nature of redemption"
This is the phase you use if after you make your elevator pitch the person asks you "What is it about?"

I don't like this because - a) I don't know what your book is about, b) I don't know who the characters are, c) I don't know the hook of the book, but d) I do know that you think it's special. You're the writer, of course you think it's special.

What you're describing wouldn't really be an elevator pitch...

Well I'm describing a logline - a one sentence description that gets the agent/manager/producer/buyer interested. That not equivalent to an elevator pitch?

What you do do is establish genre, which is pretty much all I got.

My question is how many urban high fantasies are in the market, and what makes yours unique?

Sure, I'm talking screenwriting business, not publishing, so I probably don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.

To my knowledge, there are NO urban high fantasies in the market, which is why I like having the line in there, and that's what makes it unique: It's a high fantasy that takes place almost exclusively in a single city.

Realistically this was somewhat facetious, anyway. I mostly trying to come up with a good pitch line. But maybe describing it as an urban high fantasy might be best.
