I thought I hadn't read a proper book in AGES as well… But like I said, I finished two in quick succession, then realized I had read a bit more in the past year.
Maybe we're all "stealth reading"-ha ha!
And Harry Potter counts! So that's a ginormous book at least once every two years. Keeping your attention tuned in for 700+ pages gets props, yo
Details, maybe you have the same taste as Oprah? Hahaha! O, you read a lot of books naman pala, e! Maybe you just didn't count them in coz they're non-fiction? And YOU stole my thunder as well coz I waz planning to blog about books, but ended up not doing it...yet, coz I'm lazy. haha!
Speaking of books, A friend and I are planning to visit the Powersale in Powerbooks Greenbelt 3 later. I am so doomed!-Terrie
I firmly believe Oprah is stalking ME book-wise! Hahaha!
I have read quite a lot in the last few months… but I'm realizing that because I finished the books shown above "in a flash," it FEELS like I'm not reading something "currently."
Then again, there's the books under the Book Debt Pile that I should get started on, but just don't feel like bothering… (Tamad, in other words!)
And hey, I still want that Terrie blog entry on books! Hope you get to write it down, and give me something to read. Bwah!
PS to The Road

I got a copy of The Road during one of them NBS booksales recently. It cost P200. Best bargain I ever got! The book is a gem! I practically read it in one night. I didn't expect to, despite the hype this book got. I was leery of McCarthy, to tell u the truth. He's just so slow for me. But this book I loved. McCarthy pushed all my buttons: it's speculative fiction, there's enough action, there's the bond between the father and the son...even the uncertain ending was just right. And yes, McCarthy's lyrical language fit perfectly with his vision of a post-holocaust America. Gandaaa!

my loooong-delayed comment on this books post. I dunno but I had no problems suspending my belief during Memoirs. That is a book I literally could not put down. I recall finishing it at 4AM on a Sunday morning. However, I will say that the movie, even with the niceness that is Ken Watanabe and the magnetic, terrible beauty of Gong Li, made me wrinkle my nose. I'm no Zhang Ziyi fan.
My everlasting thanks for lending my Devil In The White City--a book I found myself leaving open even while working, haha! It's amazing all the trouble people went through for the World Exhibition, which is still quite grand even by today's standards. Unfortunately, I lent my book to someone and now I can't remember who! *sobs* looks like I'll have to get another copy :(
Geishas, A White City and a Public Service Announcementdetails_laterSeptember 26 2007, 04:27:31 UTC
I dunno about my letdown on Memoirs Of A Geisha either. I guess the author didn't sell me on the Cinderella-ness of Sayuri. (SPOILER! The bit about the "son" taking over the electronics firm really did me in!)
Still, there's much to like about Memoirs-it certainly painted a vivid picture of an exotic world that did EXIST. I guess it's kinda like Smallville(!). Clark and Lana drive me up the wall, and the secondary characters Lex and Chloe get the short shrift!
Glad to share the White City goodness. I'm in same situation re: your lost copy. I'm trying my darndest to trace my DVD's of:
The Up Documentaries Box Set Running On Karma The Royal Tenenbaums The Pianist
Anyone out there I lent these too? At least let me know it's with you…
