I started feeling fucked up and weird this afternoon. I kept snacking on stuff because I thought I might be hungry or having a blood sugar issue of some sort. It wasn't until 3 PM that I realized I never took my pill that I usually take around 9 AM. Whoops. I took it when I got home, but I don't know how much it'll screw me up if I try to take ( Read more... )

I think it's definitely time to look for other places.
Also that place 100% puts heavy expectations on you for how low they pay. I don't know if I said this to you, but their Holiday Party made me kind of angry.
The whole exercise seemed to be to about saying the employees who were good were the ones who NEVER went home.
There is nothing wrong with rewarding and recognizing people for going above and beyond, however, what they described was more than above and beyond. They described people who seriously were doubling up all of the time. To step it up, means you step up when it it requires you to do so. It doesn't mean your existence now is consistent unrealistic expectations for a normal person.

That's not a healthy corporate vision.

I don't know your exact situation, but I've worked in a few non-profits at various levels (Bachelor's level case manager, clinical intern, Master's level clinician). I'm pretty sure I've even done your exact job. I agree with Rachel 100%. Non-profits tend to take advantage of their workers through this ridiculously unhealthy way of conducting business. Their expectations are fucking insane. Their productivity levels are unbearable. The pay is unlivable. The expectation is self-sacrifice. The mindset is that going above and beyond (often working for free) is what makes you a good person.

There comes a point where you have to be willing to say "fuck this" or at the very least "I'm worth more than this". You've got to put yourself first, eventually.

I already forget what you do, I feel like a jerk. It sounds like retail, though. You constantly dig yourself into a deeper hole to make yourself look good to higher-ups, but then you are stuck doing all of this shit work for almost no pay.

I used to forget to take my birth control constantly. I would realize a few days later and have to take 2 pills a day to catch up and it makes you feel gross. Also, it doesn't work so effectively, but I am 31 and never got pregnant. Shit, I should have had a party...

He works with a variety of people in the community as a social outreach program. He does a lot of work with kids who have a variety of needs, from emotional to social conditions.
I forget what the title itself is called, so don't feel too bad. :)
