indeed. i'm the same way... i love hip-hop and rap if it's GOOD, and not just random "yo check how ghetto i am, biznatch" pointless posturing.

i really like mos def as well (you should check out black star, which is mos def and another guy whose name i can't recall at the moment). i can get into some kanye and jay-z, the roots, fugees, and some more underground stuff like binary star, atmosphere, beatnuts, and consolidated, to name a few.

and i'm also a big sucker for that old school rap, whether it's deep or not. i loves me some das efx and tone loc.

THANK YOU for reminding me what the name of Mos Def's side project is! I really liked the track they did on Chappelle show, and I could remember the name of the song (What's Beef) but I couldn't for the life of me remember the group name.

The Roots are one I'd forgotten about - my buddy Wes has been all over them for years and I never understood why, so i have to go give them another listen. And the others that you mentioned that I haven't heard of, I'll give them a listen too.
