Second the icon hatred. Taskbar FTW!! I love the Win7 taskbar and start menu for keeping my desktop flawless. But I do like having a pretty background, even if I rarely see it because I have 80 bajillion windows open. XD
No, that's really interesting! I personally don't think I could stand having a total black wallpaper, but I don't even know why, I think it might be... too empty? Especially because I don't have any icons or shortcuts at all in my desktop (I couldn't organize them in a way that pleased me and it was bugging me so I deleted everything lol). I always like to have something pretty to look at when I turn on my computer. (I don't see my desktop very often after I turn on the computer, some window is always open)
I'm feeling frisky I sometimes set it to a picture of outer space so that it is black with a few white dots. Oooh, you're going with your bad self! ;)
I'm having Jess' wallpaper of the nominations for Best Overall Icon. I usually have a compilation of icons I find inspiring as a wallpaper. On my other screen (lol, I have a two) I have this one by kawaii_chicken.
So even though I don't follow the same approach, I can very much understand your point of view. Because those icons take up only a small part of my screen and the rest is an off-white colour. I work on that part of the screen, so this is the best of both worlds for me. :)
