Some non-religious suggestions for volunteering:

--soup kitchen
--Red Cross
--Meals on Wheels

Sorry, but that's the limit of my knowledge. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the suggestions - the shame of it is, my roommate (who's lived in tryon for her whole life) doesn't know that there even *is* a soup kitchen in this area.

I'll look up MOW and RC, though!
