While looking around at various things, I found this company that builds real castles.  Now I am playing with the possibility that, if I ever have a property of my own, having one built there.  Or building it myself.  :D  I mean, if it were built the size of a regular house, maybe it wouldn't cost so much.  (They have two castles listed for sale on ( Read more... )

I don't know if I would want to live in a castle (they are kind of over the top) but I certainly admire how they are built. Ingenious, how they build in modern conveniences (like heat) but still keep the rustic look.

The thing I like the best about the design of a castle is the courtyard. Modern builders should make a modern house with a yard (and a pool) inside the walls of a house. Now that would be so cool.

The method of heating doesn't seem like it would be cheap, either. The floors have to be heated, and it seems like that would take a lot to keep doing. What might be a better alternative is to take a regular house and decorate the outside in that manner - which would take less stone and engineering.

Courtyards are a nifty, nifty idea. I wonder if that would also cut out some of the heating costs, since that section would be closed off from the rest of the house. And it would solve the age old problem of unpleasant neighbors breaking into yards.
