Bruised Bibles

Religion has honestly caused more enmity and war than anything in the world. My question for the population is.. why do you cling to it so dearly when all it does is separate us as people? It makes one person hate and misjudge another on principle alone. It makes entire populations sneer at other populations with misguided disgust. I hate religion ( Read more... )

Oh my goodness, you have no idea how freaky this is. I have been thinking about this same subject the past couple of weeks. There was an argument going on between some friends of mine, and this one guy. It was an ongoing argument about some stuff or another. Then one of them decided to bring religion into it, and it made it even worse. Now, I have my beliefs, as does many other people...but you're right. Religions are all about peace and getting along, but then there are all thes colliding beliefs.

an interesting read, Sloth. i have my beliefs. they are different from yours. but, i agree with what you said about religion teaching us to co-exist peacefully, yet it not ever doing just that. perhaps, the blame cannot be all directed towards religion. what about people? I know some Christians who are the most loving, accepting, peaceful people i have ever met. They enjoy hearing about other ideas and philosophies. I think that religion itself is not bad or evil; but the people who use it for evil--they are evil. if you say that religion is evil because of the actions of its followers, then that is the same thing as saying alcohol is evil because of the actions of its users. non sequitur. I agree that many people, many Christians for example, are misled and rather fanatic about their religion to the extreme. but the problem with them is the universal problem of the ignorant--they do not use their brain to think for themselves. instead, they listen to whatever their preacher/pastor tells them, yet they never think ( ... )

You've got the right idea. Without people, religion is no longer an organization.. just an idea. So yeah, people within and their respective attitudes are the problem. I guess if you haven't taken everything from religion that you feel you need.. there's no reason to stop attending church.. study groups.. whatever they've got. But I believe that religion stands as an extremely effective "school" for morals and ethics. Religion, as any effective organization, should focus more on personal growth and "extension of righteousness" rather than allow itself to become outdated and overhyped. People cause too much conflict in everyday life by considering the morality of things through the eyes of a deity. What we are shocked by and consider to be wrong is constantly changing as time goes on and technology progresses. Issues like abortion and stem cell research have created conflicts of a religious nature. If abortion weren't such a rampant practice, it wouldn't be a topic of debate with religion. The problem in this case is that other ( ... )

my views on abortion: keep it legalized, promote it, whatever. But with that, the doctors have a responsibility to inform their patients what the process involves--how it destroys the fetus and the grotesque measures that are taken in the abortion. I personally become sick when i think of what actually occurs in an abortion. However, I can block that out and not judge those who have had an abortion or those who believe in abortion. To me, it is a personal matter. I personally would never have an abortion. But that is me. I don't give a fuck what the next girl does ( ... )

Bleh. At several points I notice morality, ethos, belief, faith, subjective reasoning, and other religiously bent philosophies being confused and muddled into one little sentient being of... um... confusion... Anyhow, Peace out.

Confusion? deusexpirata February 1 2005, 00:00:28 UTC
If that confused you.. you don't have business thinking about it. I didn't really care to respond to this post because it has absolutely no constructive input at all. The entire purpose of the post was to bring focus away from morality, ethos, belief, faith, and as you so stupidly put it "religiously bent" philosophies, of which I can present none because I have no religion. Try again.

"Peace" fool.

Religion, a required necessity for humans anonymous February 2 2005, 06:59:27 UTC
I think that we as humans need to believe in a higher power. We as humans need be able to see somethings as an act of god. I'm not saying that people should go to war over religion but, we should believe in god. I for one do believe in god but I still believe that most things are left to man. My father sent me this email which i will now insert once you read this I believe you will understand our that God is not to blame for our wars, but that man himself is the problem ( ... )
