That is the dumbest things I have ever heard in my life. Yay! Lets give our troops cigarettes so that they can get lung cancer and other breathing disorders so that they can't function right on the battle field! YAY!!!!

Give me a fucking break, smoking is bad for you. EVERYONE knows that. Don't send troops cigarettes cause they are already in enough risk as it is. And it will distract them! It will mess them up! Lets say that one of these days during a battle, they are taken hostage. What's going to happen in the prison or whatever? Withdrawl!!! That's brilliant.

But really, if you morons think that we should give them cigs, then why don't you get off your ass and buy some for them. -_-;

It's none of your goddamn business whether our soldiers smoke you ignorant fuck. You have no right to infringe on their actions. Yes, military personnel give up many rights by joining the service, sacrificing partial freedoms of speech and association. Did I say smoking was good for you, you dimwitted fucktard? NO. Smoking is terrible for you. I have since quit of my own accord, but I still demand that the rights of others be preserved, especially someone who is defending our country. And your "brilliant" logic has a very key flaw ( ... )

Okay, let's think about this a moment. I'm not going to flip like Sloth did ;) but I'm going to try to explain something ( ... )

Well, I'm all for smoker's rights and all of that (and it's true--cigarettes aren't mind-altering; weed is), but it IS the army. Therefore it's privy to whatever the hell little whim the President or his cabinet may have. You may question the generality of the status quo being like that, but the truth is that THAT is the legality of the matter.

And honestly, this movement to send the soldiers cigarettes is entirely the doing of the people sending them. They have the right to withdraw them at any time they so choose, so complaining about it is just foolish. Personally, I think they should just give the soldiers who smoke some nicotine patches and send them on their merry way with a friendly slap on the ass. At least then they stand a chance of quitting and we don't even have to talk about all of this ridiculousness.

Wow! A good idea! deusexpirata January 10 2005, 00:41:48 UTC
Both Sloth and I are in agreement with you. Nic Patches are a very good idea for the soldier on the run! Seriously, quitting is a good thing, and they'll still be getting their fix, so who's to complain? Of course, if a soldier sends a letter back asking for the "real stuff" I don't see the problem in helping him out. It's his life. It's his choice.

Aynonymous....you dont smoke do you? If a soldier wants to smoke i say let him smoke. Im all for smoking since i feel it should be an "individual's" choice not that of our conservative, closed minded government. The fact of the matter is if im in a life and death situation im gonna need something to take the edge off and a patch sure as hell isnt gonna do it. Its not our right to strip the right to smoke from our soldiers just cuz were afraid they are goin to get lung cancer....sheesh...its not like i burn down your churches just cuz i want you to stop believing in god...so go sit in your little non-smoking corner before i give you something to smoke about...

Okay, let me get your first sentence straight: I don't smoke, therefore I have no right to decide the role of the government in the tobacco industry as applies to our country? That is up there pretty high on the scale of "things that might sound good in your head". "A patch sure as hell isn't going to do it." "I'm gonna need something to take the edge off ( ... )
