Maribel had been hearing rumors about the supposed "moving fight club" for a little over two weeks--whispers, mostly, or someone's drunken rambling. She hadn't believed it at first--rumors like this flared up occasionally, and they were usually just a waste of her time

Women were a rare enough addition to the crowd. Unlike some other Fight Clubs, Christina did not forbid women from joining, but they were expected to carry their own weight like everyone else. Gender did not matter-- if someone couldn't handle the ring, they were out. And for some reason, the type of things offered in the club usually didn't appeal to the fairer sex
