Who: Cora and Vince What: Cora and Vince meet. Cora has a question about the class Vince TA's and Vince has some snooping to do for Seb. When: Vince's office hours Where: Vince's office
"Alright, ask away," he answered as he played with a small, miniature globe in his hand. He watched the crystal and transparent glass sphere rotate around its axis for a few moments before turning his attention to the door where the sound was coming from. Distinctly soft and quiet, and yet he couldn't help but feel as though there was a familiar ring to it. Did he know this person? It didn't seem like it, but something about this stranger's voice had piqued his interest
( ... )
She eased the door open, still a bit shy about entering his office. She hadn't really been in to visit a teacher yet and it felt odd. Sure she was in his discussion group once a week, but she didn't have much face-to-face with him yet. She was surprised how disorganized his office seemed. Most of her high school teachers had been painstakingly meticulous in keeping their desks organized. Of course, he did have a bigger space to allow disarray.
"My name is Cora," she said, smiling uncertainly. She shifted her weight uneasily, not entirely sure what to do next now that she was here.
"Ah, that's right. You're in discussion with me," he answered, embarrassed slightly as he laughed. Too many faces and too few names to remember - plus, only the noisy ones had names that Vince could remember with great certainty. But this student, she definitely didn't appear to be talkative at first glance. Nonetheless, he didn't want to make too many assumptions about the undergraduates, it always lead to poorly conceived notions.
"I meant to learn all your names. But as you can tell, I've done a sub-par job," he admitted, still confident in his tone of voice as he stood up and walked over to the door to greet her more appropriately. Once they were in close proximity, he picked up another stack of tests which he previously laid on a chair, held them firmly in his hand and looked down towards the newcomer with a smile. "Still, a pleasure to meet you, Cora. What was your question, exactly?"
"Well, I know that we can write about any topic we've talked about in class and anything, but is there any special way we should present it? Um...like court cases or just from two differing philosophical standpoints?" she asked as she pulled out her assignment sheet.
Philosophy was completely new territory for her and she didn't quite understand the logistics of it. It was different to look at things from so many different writers. It seemed a lot of opinions that people subscribed too. It was an interesting subject, but she wasn't sure she'd take many more courses in it.
