Zusammenfassung: Tony and Bruce meet on campus because their roommates needed a bit of privacy.
An invitation
"He has a taste for the sports students."
Bruce hasn't heard anyone approach, so he jumps almost two feet in the air when he hears a voice right next to him. He whips around only to come face to face with a young black haired man with an awfully pretentious goatee, who spouts the happiest grin Bruce has seen all week.
"Come again?" he asks, willing away the goose bumps on his arms and looking the guy up and down.
He has never seen him around the dorm before. Average height, average build and a handsome face with a wide, brilliant smile on it. Right now, he quirks his brow at Bruce and points lazily at the building behind them.
"My roommate. Rhodey? The one currently screwing your roommate?"
There is something calculated about his movements, Bruce thinks, as if he was trying too hard to make them absolutely casual. Nonetheless the way he moves his hands and fingers is captivating and so Bruce needs a moment to tear his gaze away to look the guy in the face.
"Oh. Yeah, Clint has a... cordial visitor right now."
"And incidentally you wanted to watch the exciting life on campus this evening. Isn't that great."
The guy smiles at him again and Bruce laughs.
"Well, better than sitting right next to them," he says, extending his hand. "I'm Bruce."
"Tony," the man says, shaking his hand with a lot more power than Bruce would have expected from someone who seems to be all over the place at all times.
"Nice to meet you. I didn't know Rhodey had a roommate."
"Well, he conveniently tends to forget about me whenever someone with a major in athletics moves into this dorm."
Tony laughs, stretching his arms over his head and Bruce can already tell that that was a stone cold lie. He hasn't known Rhodey that long but it seems impossible that a guy who sets Bruce up with tickets for art house movies whenever he wants to bang Clint senseless wouldn't show the same consideration to his own roommate.
Although Tony doesn't appear to be that much into art house movies.
Bruce shakes his head and leans back against the wall, watching Tony fumble a pack of cigarettes out of his jeans until he holds it out to Bruce.
"You care for an early death?"
Bruce feels himself grin again. "No, thank you."
"Neither do I," Tony immediately answers, letting the pack vanish inside his pockets again. What is it with this guy, Bruce wonders. "It's an excellent ice breaker, though."
Bruce nods because he has no idea what to say to that but apparently Tony doesn't mind that he just brought the conversation to a crashing halt. He hums to himself, fiddling around with his phone, an off-brand model, but one Bruce knows is incredibly expensive and at the height of current technology. Bruce feels his mouth water and although it should make him nervous that Tony can't seem to stay still for more than two seconds, he finds himself staring at him.
It doesn't take Tony long to notice. He grins and winks at Bruce.
"You like what you see? We can take this upstairs to my room, if you like. I think it's free tonight."
Some years ago, Bruce would have been blushing furiously, stammering and trying to make a hasty retreat. But he hasn't been friends with Natasha Romanov for nothing and stuff like this doesn't shock him that much anymore.
He is still blushing though, as he forces a smile on his face.
"Another one of your ice-breakers, Tony?"
"Guilty as charged."
Tony grins again, winks again and Bruce doesn't know why but instead of feeling alienated by this completely lack of finesse, he finds it charming and funny. It's easy to see Tony surrounded by dozens of people at a party, entertaining them with his smile and quick wit and keeping them wondering about his motives. Why hasn't he ever seen him at one of those parties, Bruce wonders, until he hears Natasha's voice in his mind who reminds him that Bruce is the one to never frequent one of those parties. It's his own fault for missing out and for the first time during his entire college career, Bruce feels something like regret. A miracle considering he has known Tony for all of two minutes.
He is about to ask what Tony is studying when his phone vibrates in his pocket, at the same time as Tony's does.
He quickly gets it out and looks at it: a message from Rhodey, that it would be safe to come up again and with the promise to invite "both of you" to dinner some time.
Bruce wonders how Rhodey could have known that Tony was here with him but when he looks up, he sees Tony smile at him.
"See you at dinner then," he says with a wink, before turning around and walking back to the entrance.
"Hey", Bruce calls. "Did... did he ask you to talk to me?"
It's such a stupid question and Bruce doesn't even know how he would react if Tony confirms this weird thought (would he be angry? But for what exactly?), and when Tony stops dead in his tracks and turns around, Bruce regrets ever opening his mouth.
"What was that, Snow White?"
Bruce isn't sure what to say. He gulps and gestures at his phone. "He...he knew that you were here," he explains lamely and pretends not to see how Tony's grin widens by the second.
"Oh that," he drawls. "He might have shown me a picture of you and Clint once. It's possible that I decided to charm you into submission ... or maybe he told me to entertain you, to soothe his bad conscience. Who knows?"
Another laugh, another wink, a kiss thrown at Bruce with utter carelessness and then Tony vanishes behind the doors.
He shouldn't fall for that, Bruce thinks, he really shouldn't, it's so obvious.
But he can't wait for that dinner.
