yeah I agree, spending the money on doing something together is cool. Although JJ and I exchanged our gifts early- he got me the Matrix movies (only he would know that that is the awesomest gift ever) and I got him the new Grand Theft Auto video game. It is a fun excuse to get your sigother something they want but wouldn't ordinarily buy for themself.
