How knitting is like writing

May 01, 2013 07:21

I started learning to knit just about a year ago. I spent most of last year working on a scarf. A looooong scarf. That involved the same series of stitches, over and over again. So when I finally finished that I wanted to work on something "more interesting ( Read more... )

What's the line from Taran Wanderer, when Taran is working with... is it Hevyd the Smith? Nrgh, that spelling is wrong, but hopefully you know whom (who?) I'm talking about.

Also, that frogging pun is terrible. :) But that glove is coooooooooool.

I am reading TARAN WANDERER to my youngest right now! And we're about to start that very chapter!

I had completely forgotten that scene from TW but it is perfect. And I see RJ found the quote!

Wow, that is gorgeous! I am so proud of you for having the courage to undo all that work and start over (on both counts)! I fear that if that were my knitting, I would have stuffed it into a bag in the closet and decided that Knitting Is Not For Me.

Thanks R! There were plenty of times I nearly resorted to the bag and closet myself. But it's been good practice at learning to enjoy the journey...

See also this beautiful LOTR-inspired cardigan and this differently-colored version of that flower coat.

oh, and VERY clever way to get me to sign up with ravelry and see all those gorgeous things and covet them and think, yet again, "MUST LEARN HOW TO KNIT!!" ;)

that violet cloak is so stupendously beautiful... i want to wap her for caring that it probably has a bunch of mistakes in it. LOL

I love this analogy! The fingerless glove turned out lovely and I bet whatever you're writing will too. I am so bad at accepting that things will not be perfect the first time - especially with my writing. Perhaps I ought to take up knitting to force myself to get over my perfectionism!

Also - I hear that I will get to meet you at the retreat in July! I am so excited! :)

I am very excited for the retreat! So glad you can go too!

I will probably still be working on both the second glove and the new writing project then... :-)
