be sure that one of the first things you do when you get to paris is to get a 3 day "paris visite" pass (or for however many days youre gonna be there) its good for all public transportation and its great! i think we paid like 18 euros for a 3 day pass, and we took subways like literally 10 times a day. they are super fast and its really the best way to get around to all the places if you only have a few days to see everything! also this is the best site to book hotel rooms, its cheaper than booking it directly through the hotel. just select "budget hotels" under property type, and not hostels! those are scary. haha. just make sure that when looking for hotels that you make sure that it specifys that you get a private bathroom. alot of european hotels have shared bathrooms, like one for the whole floor to share, which really sucks. we stayed in hotel innova though, for pretty cheap, it was in a real nice area, right across the street from the subway/metro, we had our own nice bathroom and a view of the eiffel tower

I'm trying to find a good hotel to stay at right now, but I don't know the best areas to stay and where to avoid. I will definitely get the paris visite pass, that sounds like a good deal and I know we will use public transportation a lot. Thanks for the tips!! :)

well the east half of the city is where all the cool touristy stuff is, anywhere in the southeast quadrant is pretty nice area, which is where that hotel innova was that we stayed at. the north part of teh city around moulin rouge was pretty trashy, so avoid there for hotels.
