Old computer stuff

Going through old computer stuff today in an attempt to organize my office, found a whole bunch of old programs and discs. Strange to see my childhood copy of "where in time is carmen sandiago" and "super munchers" as well as many others. None are of any use anymore (all on floppy) but still a strange experience ( Read more... )

Hey! I have a working copy of Sim City 2000 and it runs fine on windows XP and OS X. I haven't tried it on Vista. In any case, I could copy it and torrent it to you if you want :)

If I knew how to torrent that'd be useful... I do run Vista (long story), but I know how to make XP stuff work on it.

I don't have a copy of SimCity 2000, but it would be easy enough to find and I was going to make a very similar offer to you. There's a free program called DosBox which runs old games beautifully on new systems, and it's really easy to set up. If you're not feeling adventurous, Matt or I could do it for you.

I have a 5&1/4" drive if you want. Its not currently attached to a working computer, but rather one former 486 that has no CPU. I haven't gotten around to cobbling it into my current system, but I still intend to eventually, so I would eventually want it back. Anyway, I could lend it for a while.

The main problem with floppies is that they expire. Given that many of these are 15 years old, I highly doubt the data on them is still any good.

These were 3" floppies anyway, and I tossed them today. we have GOT to get rid of a lot of unnecessary stuff. Keeping junk around is no good, especially when trying to sell a house.

I appreciate the offer, but I think I'm better off getting the data info from someone else.
