It wasn't too bad being inside all the time now that his joints hurt and he'd gained some weight-- he wasn't the young dog he used to be, and he learned long ago to stop running through open doors(especially after that car accident). He still got the same attentions he did when he was younger though, if not more because of his age.
"Here, so you take this wire brush, and..."
"L-like this, Hanejima-san?"
"It's just Makoto. And no, brush it the wrong way. Because he has two layers of fur, since this kind of dog comes from a cold place and it gets tangled..."
Hachi groaned a little as Yui managed to brush out a knot, rolling his shoulders. Well, they were good girls, they'd figured it out eventually.
Baraqiel noticed things about Masami others didn't seem to-- but of course he would. Masami was his master and as such it only made sense to pay attention to the boy's quirks and body language(and sometimes spoken language, though that wasn't quite as telling). It wasn't long before his demon noticed his infatuation with animals-- large, small, cuddly, or ugly, they all seemed the same to him. When they went to find books, he flipped through ones with pictures of different creatures, care books, pop-ups. When they passed a store, Masami would pause to stare at the stuffed animals through the window before remembering they had somewhere to be and moving on

He was sometimes bewildered to find Mio next to him when he woke up(especially when she was naked). He'd long gotten used to her crawling into bed hours after he'd gone to sleep, whether it be his or her own, and her early hours up before he was to make coffee
