OKAY, SO. Someone posted this link at ontd_startrek, and it's this list some moron wrote of the 100 most defining films of the decade. Basically, a bunch of films that defined the decade, infleunced careers/filmmaking/the industry, etc. I MEAN, CLEARLY YOU CAN TELL I'M ANNOYED. But check this, this is the top 10:

10) Slumdog Millionaire ( Read more... )

OMG I FORGOT TO RAGE ABOUT CRASH BEING ON THE LIST BECAUSE ARGHHHHHHHHHH MY HATE FOR CRASH IS SO INTENSE, SERIOUSLY. I really can't take this list seriously either because it really does list the fucking most retarded reasons for placing these movies as they are.

I'm not hating on Keira Knightly for the list, or anything, I just think it's funny her stuff is on here when her career isn's so shiny. I just also have a sort of dislike for her fucking rail-thin self, even though I terribly enjoy her in things like Bend It Like Beckham and Star Wars and PotC.

All right, dos:

Also, Memento is bullshit, but apparently I'm alone there. Maybe. I mean I don't think enough people have seen and care about Memento in order for it to place in the top ten. It's not like Pulp Fiction. I haven't seen any wannabe Mementos since then. Actually maybe The Machinist.

But the list is pretty much all-around BS, but I will agree with a couple things on there, even if their placing is stupid. Yeah...Mamma Mia was definitely more important than Moulin Rouge, which singlehandedly brought back the movie musical. It's not a good list. My money's on, this is the list of movies this guy has seen since 2000. I hadn't realized how many movies I've seen until now, though.

You have got to see There Will Be Blood. I went into it totally blind and I'm glad I did. I may never have seen it if someone had been like, "It's based on an Upton Sinclair novel about oil." Fuck that. Pretend you never heard that. It is so good. There was actually quite an active LJ community that sprang up around it when it came out and we used to talk about it so much that at one point we were posting like 3-4 lines of dialogue about it on a daily basis and dissecting it and talking about it. We never did get through the whole movie, but it is frankly amazing how many paragraphs and paragraphs of information and conversation would pour out of people with just three or four lines. That's not an exaggeration. This movie is so utterly filled with things to amaze you that I'm confident you cannot possibly see it so many times that you won't be delighted each time because you just figured out something new. It's like when you thought you were all out of Raisinets, and you were mourning their loss, but then you hit the box and ( ... )

Lists like these really shouldn't be made until well after the decade is over. I mean, the stuff from the first half of the decade I can tell which ones deserved to be up there and which ones aren't as important as they were at the time, but it's hard to tell with the ones from only the past couple years which ones will still hold up in another five years or so. Not to mention the year isn't over yet to begin with.

Soooooo true. It's way too soon to say that a certain film defines the decade because how can you even say what defines this decade unless it's over? It does say the past 10 years, so I include 1999 films, which of course was originator to dozens of fucking epic movies. Just so much fail and lack of thought in the writing of this list.

'99 did have a lot of influential films but I do believe he just meant 2000 and up since he does refer to it as the decade. Besides, if you count the years individually, 00-09 is ten years. Maybe it would have made more sense if he listed this in two months when it will be '10, which he should have done anyways.

I remember sometime after Crash won best picture, someone put out a list of films that won best picture in the past that won't be memorable to join Crash. I should look that list up again.
