The amazing Anne -- who KNEW?

I've been reading into the LJ of a Scots girl named Erin -- http://erindubitably.livejournal.com/ (Cute, huh?)

In a post last year, she mentioned seeing a feminist piece on the Beeb (BBC, to those who hadn't heard that endearing Briticism) -- one I'd never heard of "on this side of the pond." It's a bio-pic on an early-1800s lesbian named Anne Lister, a Yorkshire landowner who lived her life outspokenly and with real panache in the port city of Halifax.

Anne had lovers of many sorts (married women, single ladies -- she was evidently game!). Well-travelled and self-educated in various fields, she was a successful businesswoman, and wrote a 4-million-word diary -- with the sexy parts IN CODE, which has recently been decyphered!

I went to BBC2's Website, where there's a wonderful blog by the writer of the bio-pic, Jane English.

Oh when, oh WHEN will PBS bring us this marvelous show?? I REALLY want to see it -- oh, please, Gwen Ifell or Margaret Warner [I'm a Newshour regular!), please use your influence to get the "suits" to look at a copy!!!!
