what to do in New York?

Where should I go in NYC when I'm there for 2 nights? I'm trying not to shop a ton but in NYC it's kind of inevitable. I was thinking one day of browsing upscale stores that I've never been to, like Barney's, Henri Bendel, etc and then the other partial day either going to a museum or a play. Suggestions?
