And sometimes you don't please any of the people!

While the rest of the internet is frothing with outrage over the fact that NBC is recording the marquee Olympic events and airing them later during U.S. prime time, and also complaining bitterly about the asinine commentary that goes with them, I'm over here wistfully imagining how nice it would be if my sports (equestrian) were actually shown ( Read more... )

the olympics, the renner, the bourne legacy

Someone at work was telling me yesterday that the female gymnastic team was uniformly badass and potentially made of superheroes. I didn't disagree, but suggested that the dressage folks should also be on the list, with the superpower of isolating whole muscle groups and moving various body parts in isolation from one another, with a side of core strength that would make Cap weep :D

. . . why is there no Avengers equestrian AU?

My entire life I have been very politely not punching people in the face when they say riding a horse isn't exercise.

Plus, men and women compete directly against each other head to head!

Avengers and horses. I would die.

The eventing dressage was ridiculously silent. I was pestering lorax the whole time for what was going on, since she at least was familar with the riders and such. Eventing cross country at least had commentary although the guy was clearly favoring the British and hung up on the riders' ages (especially the women) like woah.

I did find a handy site that lets me add events to my google calender and sets a reminder on my cell all in one click. But I am usually at work (graveyard shift) when most of them start. SO FRUSTRATING.

And that's the other thing! Today the schedule I was using (the network's actual site!) was wrong! So I could have watched some it before I left home, but I thought it was on at 11am or whatever.

It's a goddamn conspiracy.

We're pretty lucky that our pay tv has ten (!!) Olympics channels for the duration and everything is broken up by sport and you can easily scroll through and record what you want up to a few days in advance. I am recording all the male diving because of reasons that have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with teeny tiny swimmers and long ridic bodies.

Ahem.

In conclusion, Renner arms.

I was jealous of those ten channels for a second but then I saw your icon and now nothing in the world matters.

I feel the same way about the archery competitions. I've been scouring schedules to see which of the 6 NBC owned channels will show any of the archery and when I tune in at that time, I get a sloppily edited rehash of the last 15 minutes. I know, I know - at least there's something. NBC owns 6+ channels all of them showing Olympics, but some of them showing the SAME games. Ugh. It's ridiculous.

Also: racewalking. wut.

Yes, so true. With all those channels, it still seems like slim pickings for seeing what you want. *shakes fist*

Every time someone mentions racewalking I think, "The baseball and softball people must be SO PISSED."

It's a shame, the BBC coverage has been actually pretty admirable. We've had 24 channels created specifically just for this and their equestrian coverage was... well, about on a par with the rest of it I guess, but then we have a vested interest in the equestrian stuff because it's one of those sports we sometimes do quite well in.
Is there any way you could figure out how to use tunnelbear or something and just access the BBConline's on-demand content instead? It might be easier than trying to wade through a 13 hour program slot.

Yes, I keep hearing the BBC coverage of the equestrian stuff is excellent! I'll have to see if I can get access to it if I can get a few spare seconds.
