I was really unprepared for the awesomeness of this movie.  My first five star review, and genuinely well deserved.  This is not a movie that follows the genre, it defines it.  If you don't mind a fair bit of sex and violence in your movies, I heartily recommend it to pretty much everyone, despite the misleading title (there are no actual "mamas" in the movie).  It stars the ever wonderful Pam Grier and Margaret Markov as the black and white mamas, respectively.

Set in revolutionary Philippines, the movie starts out in a women's prison and hits all the highlights of a WIP movie in quick succession and spot on.  Soon, though, during a prisoner transfer the prison convoy is attacked by revolutionaries and the two main characters get away, though they stay chained together by the wrist through most of the movie.  There is a good, if brief, catfight shortly after they escape while they are still chained together that is fun to watch.

There are three heavily armed sets of bad guys: the revolutionaries (friends of the white mama), the drug lord (frenemies with the black mama), and a cowboy mercenary and his gang hired by the police to find the mamas.  Then there is the police, who mainly sit in the background until the end.  This leads to an epic shootout and "Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels" kind of ending where all the bad guys shoot each other (except Pam Grier, who escapes), leaving the police to come and just gather criminals and revolutionaries up at their convenience.

Great fun for the whole family!
