Wow - I should of did that when I flew from Stockholm->Chicago and then got stuck in Chicago instead of going on to Buffalo because of a snow storm in Buffalo on my November 20-30th. We didn't see our luggage for 3 days after that. The only compensation is that they delivered the luggage to my parents' house without charge. Whoopiedoo! Anyway, We flew American, and then they switched us to United. Later I heard that United is notorious for problems like this, as is American. :-\ And I never wrote a complaint letter. I was on the phone constantly from Nov 21-22nd with the United airlines customer service as well as Baggage Claim at the Buffalo airport. They kept me on hold and after the 10th call, I got pissed and said, "Look, jerk, if you don't give us our 3 bags of luggage, we're gonna charge you $1000 for each piece of luggage." and that's when we started getting answers and got our luggage delivered to my parents' house while we were out at a hockey game the night of the 22nd.
oh and i forgot to mention - we got no compensation for the hotel night spent in chicago nor taxi cab charges. we were flown from Chicago to Rochester instead, and took Amtrack to Buffalo. So always count on $100-150 in extra expense when flying :-(
you should have written. That hotel shoulda been paid for! Most airlines do not register complaints unless they are written. I also have written letters of praise too. But for the record, I complained to US Airways for poor service & got a $75 voucher. It does work, if for nothing else other than getting it off your chest. The guy at Air France customer service said written complaints usually get some compensation, probably because people don't usually take the time to write....
