Sometimes I use 'u' for 'you' in text messages. =o/ Having said that I'm still capable of forming near-to-proper english when appropriate. I really think that internet chat and mobile (sorry, CELL) phone culture is ruining generations of children and teenagers. Part of my job is to monitor correspondence in an email enquiry service, both enquiries and replies, and I am consistently shocked by the level of communication e.g.

HI THR, IM A 2ND YR PSYCH STUDENT + CAN U TELL ME WHR MY EXAM IS 2MORO. SORRY FOR BEIN DUMB LOL. THNX.

I work in an academic institution and these are the doctors of tomorrow - I despair!

Haha, well, in the case of cell phone text messages it's understandable. It is more difficult to type out any word with the number pad. Which would be about 8 key presses just to type "you". ALTHOUGH! Technology provides some cellphones with "predictive text". You just have to hit the number for each letter and it will guess what you are trying to type...and give a few alternate choices for words...AND YOU CAN ADD ONE IF IT ISN'T THERE! Neat huh? You should find out if your phone has it!

And yeah, that right there is kind of person I'm talking about. And it's even worse in that case! Like what kind of hurry are you in that you can't use basic English.

Yea my phone has predictive text and, with most other forms of useful technology, I have dismissed it as a nuisance rather than taking the time to learn about it and make my life easier. I'm bad. Maybe I might learn it soon.
