on human development, or developing humans

I started thinking about genetics today, and, working under the premise that forcing human evolution is desirable, began figuring on how to go about it. some wikipedia research led me to the understanding that human cells have some ability to heal breaks in their dna. it seems that breaks in your genetic code is not only likely but frequent. all ( Read more... )

The healing of DNA takes place when there is injury to the DNA. Presumably, this can happen when there is injury to the cell housing the DNA.

Frequent beatings, then, would force the DNA change by offering myriad opportunities to heal -- and therefor myriad opportunities to heal in a different configuration. An infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of DNA laboratories ... you get the idea.

As for pruning, I would think that the beatings would take care of that, eventually.

that seems inefficient. and destroying cells doesn't guarantee breaking dna.

Right on both counts -- so there must be MANY beatings, to be able to achieve the results you want.

Essentially, you look at the effort needed for precision (years of training, expensive equipment) and for blanket-effect (a few thugs, mayhem) and a cost-benefit analysis indicates that the future of the species lies in severe corporal punishment over a prolonged period.

I'd suggest starting at BDSM clubs.

are you saying that a switch is more evolved than most, and masochists even more so?
