Novel: THE FIERCE "HUNDRED GAME"

"Waaah!"

It was a direct hit. Because he was looking down, he didn't see the person in front of him.

"S-S-S-S-Sorry!"

"Sena-kun?"

He heard the voice from way above his head. It's Sakuraba.

"What are you doing here... ah, I got it. You're lost."

How did you know that. But, before Sena could voice his question out loud, Sakuraba laughed and gave him an answer.

"Shin got lost here yesterday."

"So Shin-san gets lost too..."

"Ootawara-san lost his way too. When they tried to take a shortcut, they ended up more lost than before."

That's exactly how it went for me too, thought Sena, shoulders sagging.

"If you're looking for the annex, it's over there."

"Thank you very much, I really appreciate it."

This must be how it feels to meet a Buddha in Hell. Sena bowed his head lower than usual.

"Sena-kun."

"Yes?"

Called just as he was about to leave, Sena halted his steps, hesitant.

"You were Eyeshield 21, weren't you."

That's right. Shin, who could tell players apart from their muscles, knew instantly that Sena and Eyeshield 21 were the same person. But, Sakuraba never realized that until Sena had taken his Eyeshield helmet off.

"Thanks for the visit."

"Ah..."

During the second match of the spring tournaments against Oujou, there was an accident with Sena crashing into Sakuraba while running at full speed. After Sakuraba was hospitalized with a broken collarbone, Sena paid him a visit as Deimon's secretary.

"To walk alone as some kind of hero. You guys will never understand that kind of pressure."

Sena recalls the words Sakuraba muttered in his hospital bed. That time, made popular as a model by his agent JyariPro, the production and his fans assumed and celebrated his status as "the team's ace".

The figure of Sakuraba who suffered from the great difference between the hero mask he was made to wear and his true abilities, was awfully similar to his own predicament of being forced to wear the Eyeshield 21 mask. That's why, he vowed that day. To become stronger, to make a lie true.

After that, what Sakuraba thought, how Sakuraba spent his days, Sena didn't know. But, the Sakuraba now is different from the Sakuraba then. That's all he knows.

"Thanks. That's all I wanted to say."

Just as Sakuraba turned his heel to leave, Sena hastily called out to him.

"Um... Sakuraba-san!"

Walking, Sakuraba turned back. But, it was too late.

"There's, a bonsai shelf over there."

"Eh!?"

Sakuraba's long legs get caught in a board of the shelf. Because it was a low shelf, it must have been a blind spot for the tall Sakuraba. It might've been a bad idea to call out to him so late. The bonsai pots lining the shelf fell as one. Piercing noises of pots smashing into the stone pavement continued, before it finally fell silent.

"Oh crap..."
