Getting Personal: It's Not Funny

Greg and I have been together for ten years and ten months. I'm the novel reader, he's the comic book reader. In that time we've been together, he's faithfully collected comic books and graphic novels. He used go to the store every week. Now, it's every couple of weeks, just because it is a bit of a drive for us now ( Read more... )

What a terrible situation to be in.

It's not fun, that's for sure. I think Greg's come up with a solution (he's going to wait for the hardcovers, which he can get at Borders and Amazon), but it's not one we wanted forced on us. :)

You could always move to Austin. ;-)

If I wanted to move out of the COUNTRY, sure. Because Texas is totally its own country, which is kinda scary. ;)

I think he's going to wait for the hardcovers for most of them, or for the mini-series, get the books off eBay, and for the one series he just can't get in hardcover, he might send me incognito to Store A. On Sundays, the owner doesn't work and has someone else, so that's a possibility too!

I feel ya. My boyfriend doesn't like the owner of the one and only comic/rpg book store we have around here, so we're stuck just trying to order things online. It's just another reason that we're moving next year.

I'm curious: where do you order from?

Also, where do you live now and where do you plan on moving to? :)

We normally go for Amazon, since they often have good deals, although BF can get more picky when it comes to rp books. It's not a perfect system, of course. I'm resigned to picking up comics when/if they come out in collected volume form, although lately I've been on a book binge, so I haven't bought a new comic in a while.

I live in way northern CA, around 100 miles from the closest Barnes and Noble. My boyfriend and I are moving to San Francisco, around 3 blocks from an awesome brunch place. :D

What a terrible situation! That poor shop owner! :( Have you made any final decisions as to where you are going to go?

I used to live in the middle of nowhere. It was a 30 minute drive to the grocery store and a 2 hour drive to any decent store; bookstore, clothing, etc...It was rather difficult. Especially when you ran out of something basic.

I hope you guys are able to find a good solution! Best of luck!

I think a friend of ours is going to a different shop and getting the titles Greg wants for him, and then Greg will pay him back later. That should work. :)

Ugh. I HATE living so far away from everything. At least in this small town, I have a grocery store and WalMart five minutes away (even though they suck), but all the good restaurants and stores? 30-40 minutes. Not as bad as two hours, but ugh!
