What I'm Watching: FlashForward

Oct 23, 2009 19:58

So when I first heard about FlashForward, it was a no-brainer that I'd plop down to watch. I mean, it's an SF show. Of course I'm going to watch. Even though I have personal reasons for not reading any of Robert J. Sawyer's work (don't ask), I decided not to let the fact that this show was an adaptation of his book bother me. In fact, even if I ( Read more... )

Honestly? I watched the pilot, have the rest of the episodes queued up in Hulu, but haven't had the motivation to watch. Reading your critique, I'm still not inclined...plus, there's too much stuff on as it is! Too many choices, ack!

I'd leave them in your queue, watch when you feel like, and give the show a little more time to see if others say it's worth it. I enjoy the show, but it's got a little ways to go.

I feel pretty much the same as digitalred93. I watched the first episode, liked it fine, but now I have about four episodes queued up in my DVR, and no burning desire to watch them. Haven't decided yet whether to keep them for a marathon or just get rid of them. It's obviously trying to be Lost, but with that I raced through the entire first season in about a week.

I'm actually really enjoying Stargate Universe. The BSG influence is obvious, but really, it strikes me as being Voyager as it should have been.

If it helps, first episode aside, it's really not TRYING to be Lost. I haven't noted anything since the first episode that made me go, "Oh, that reminds me of Lost." Well, except a few familiar faces. I'd save it for a marathon. The show's finding its feet still, but it's got potential. Last week's was particularly good.

Watched another two episodes over this past weekend, and you're right that they feel less like Lost. The show's still on the bubble with me; I enjoyed the second episode but thought the Nazi ep was a little weak. Since you say that the latest ep was good, I think I'll watch through that and decide.

I think in the end it comes down to character. Lost (which I still can't help compare it to) started out with characters who weren't what they seemed. The pleasure of the first season is discovering their true selves. I don't get the impression yet that any character in FlashForward isn't exactly what they appeared to be when we first met them. I sometimes find myself thinking of them as their actors' names rather than the characters'. :-)

Definitely let me know what you think once you catch up. It's still not Lost great, but I think it could get there. :)

I feel the same way too. I watched three episodes and it just utterly failed to grab my attention the way Lost and Heroes did. The quality of the acting is also suspect, it was just jarring at points. Or maybe it was the script--it felt like a lot of characters were just delivering long chunks of justification and intuition leaps than really following a logical (and realistic) chain of thought. I have a fourth episode recorded on my hard disk, and feel no real compulsion to watch it...

There's been five episodes so far. I think all shows take a little time to find their footing, so my philosophy is if I'm enjoying it, I'll keep watching. I was never hooked on Lost until the fourth episode, where we get Locke's flashback. :)

Are you still watching Heroes? I've heard many a dejected comment about that show's run.

I survived Season 2, which was the season that killed the interest for many people. At the end of it, I was still compelled and interested. Haven't watched Season 3 yet because I spent a long time getting up to speed with Lost.

Have you watched Fringe? I've been hearing good things about it.

I do watch FRINGE, and I quite enjoy it. It's going to be the last of my "What I'm Watching" posts since I did a pre-season 2 post about it here: http://devilwrites.livejournal.com/674440.html

I haven't seen any episodes yet, but I'm a bit skeptical. I think I'll leave it until later this winter, when it's raining too hard to do anything but curl up with my boyfriend and watch TV.

Thank you! :) Oh, I have tons of cake. If we lived closer together? I'd totally make you eat some. :)

Is that Ioan Gruffudd in your icon?
