I read posts in a weird order, my eyes skimmed, so I read the "Marie Brennan wrote this post last year about being 29" bit first and had the exact same reaction as you: sheesh, she's 29? That's depressing. ;)
Have you been using Scrivener long? I'd been using yWriter, until the bleeping thing ate over 1000 words of my novel not once but *three times*. The last time it happened I ordered a Macbook Pro. Been using Scrivener now and I like it quite a lot.

Can't figure it out, and no one I've talked to who uses the program is able to give me the same answer, or one that works. I don't get it!
Aside from that, I'm liking the program. :)
