Remember my little mini-tirade about loving remakes but not wanting to touch originals? It seems this television season is ripe for that sort of thing. First there was the now dearly-departed Eastwick ( told you, it'd get canned), then V, and now, AMC is releasing a three-night mini-series of The Prisoner. I think we are in opposite camps on this one. I loved the original, and the ground it broke, and even the Tom Disch novel based on the show.

But man did the ads look bad to me. For every BSG there are a bucket of bad remakes on TV and this smells like one. Hope I'm wrong, and hope you enjoy it, but unless it's brilliant it will suck. Methinks there is no middle ground for remakes.

I've not seen the original, so I won't be comparing. So at least I'll like or dislike it on its own merits. :) It can't re-tread the same ground as the original, but we'll see what it does. :)

And I'm not dissing the original: I just don't think I'd ever get into it because to my modern eyes, it looks too dated. I'd be distracted from the meat of the show, you know?

Speaking of BSG, I remember you saying you got into the mini-series, am I right? Did you ever watch more of the series?

And you're right about no middle ground. Definitely, definitely right. :)

Oh, I meant to ask! How IS the book? I saw it at Barnes & Noble the other day and wondered about it. :)

And the novel was based on the show? Not the other way around? Interesting...
